Neil Sullivan Music

I’m ready to get back in the studio next week to record my next song titled, “faith in a seed” for my album. I doubt I’m done being challenged by this process but I’m ready to push forward some more. I tend to bare my soul through my music, and that can bring up a lot… It can also be hard for me to accept what I create because of how invested I am on a deeply personal level. I’m learning to embrace the intensity and the waves that arise and just keep going. It’s an epic learning and growing experience and hopefully I’ll be able to be proud of the result. Either way, it’s good for me. I’m continually trying to get out of my own way, and not be too precious… otherwise I will never get these songs out of my heart.

Taking a little break from what has been a constant push on the new album. At this moment, one foot in front of the other means stepping with care. It has been a deeply cathartic process making this music, and so far I’ve been pulling from this moment in time. It has been an incredibly challenging year for me and I have been transmuting a fair amount of darkness into this music. I hope and believe this heavy chapter may be shifting. If that is the case, I think I have one more tune from this moment to finish writing and then I can open myself to what is next.

It’s hard to take a step back as the weekly process has been so healing for me. Still it feels important. For me, the whole point of making album versus releasing singles is to put forth something cohesive that says more as a collection than each song could say on its own. Anyhow, we shall see… I’m very much learning as I go.

Gratitude to as always. Can’t put into words how much I appreciate this opportunity to grow and create.

Yesterday was a breakthrough day for me at the studio. They say the night is darkest before the dawn… today I express gratitude in a real way for my man Chris Wright for having my back in what for me is a very personal and cathartic process. He goes beyond providing the epic studio and expertise and brings the human element that is so important to artists like myself in making their music… getting sappy with this Pisces moon, but hey… it’s the truth.

Learning curves, shadow work, and digging deep… all part of the process of making my first solo record.

It’s not easy, but it is rewarding. “Just keep pushing forward” has been the mantra.
