A cross-genre artistic ensemble based in Perth, Western Australia, performing Tim Newhouse’s origi Unmissable!” – North Street Music
The Tim Newhouse Collective is an octet of versatile, multi-tasking musicians that make up Tim Newhouse’s cross-genre artistic ensemble. Genre constructs are always limiting, but Tim’s music can be loosely labelled as orchestral electro-jazz, drawing influence from Jaga Jazzist, GoGo Penguin, Metropole Orkest, Maria Schneider and a swathe of hybrid composers. Film soundtrack-like one second, progr
essive rock-like the next, the sound always keeps you guessing. The Newhouse Collective have played at numerous venues around Perth since 2013, including the Ellington Jazz Club, State Library of WA’s new music series and the Laneway Lounge for the 2015 Perth International Jazz Festival. Tim’s musicians come from the jazz, classical, musical theatre and free improvisation spheres, coming together to bring their individual flavours to the music. Tim unashamedly writes and improvises like a child playing with toys; innocently adding sparkles of colour to the music ad-hocum to create an orchestral ‘assault’ beneath melodies. Sometimes accompanied with animation, Tim and his co-conspirators entertain and immerse, relaying his journeys with an understated confidence while leaving the broader story up to you.
“The Tim Newhouse Collective is an exciting new ensemble performing the original compositions of talented young composer, Tim Newhouse. With training from WAAPA – the WA Academy of Performing Arts – Tim and his colleagues will take you on a beautiful journey of music that tells stories that are at times profoundly moving and at others, lively and fun.
