Sara Hage (landscape architect) and Christian Zahr (architect) collaborate on projects concerned with exterior space. Being aware of the incremental loss of local identity, they envision specific design responses that are contextual and contemporary, in both public and private commissions. Residents of the Mar Mikhael area, they find in the "Nehna wil Amar wil Jiran" festival an opportunity to con
tribute to reinforcing the public identity of Vendome stairs. The intervention involves placing, in the middle of the stairs, on a flight of steps, the most representative element of a public space: a bench. This allows users, certainly the elderly amongst of which, to stop and rest in the shade of a tree. Such a unique layout offers a different perception of this public space, with a better understanding of the topography of the place. This public bench, in its apparent playfulness, is a reaction to the mounting sterility, privatization and rarity of public spaces in Beirut.
يتعاون سارا الحاج (تنسيق حدائق) و كريستيان زهر (هندسة عمارة) في مشاريع تعنى بالفضاء الخارجي للمدينة. و هما، إنطلاقا من وعيهما لفقدان الهوية المحلية، يتوخيان تصورات تصميمية خاصة بالموقع، حساسة لجوارها و معاصرة، في كل من المشاريع العامة و الخاصة.و لكونهما من سكان حي مار مخايل، فهما يجدان في مهرجان "نحنا و القمر و الجيران" فرصة في المساهمة في تاكيد الهوية العامة لدرج "الفندوم". تتكون هذه المداخلة في وسط الدرج من تركيز للعنصر الأكثر دلالة على الحيّز العام:المقعد . يسمح هذا للمارين، و خصوصاً المسنين منهم، بالإستراحة في ظل شجرة.فهذا التموضع غير المعتاد على الدرج، يقترح مفهوماً رؤوياً مختلفاً لهذا الحيز العام، كما يساهم في فهم أفضل لتضاريس المكان.هذا المقعد العام، بما في نزعته إلى الخفة و اللهو، هو دعوة إلى مواجهة إفتقار النكهة، كما الخصخصة و الشحّ، في الفسحات العامة لبيروت. Soucieux de la perte de l'identité locale, ils apportent des réponses spécifiques, contextuelles et contemporaines aux commandes publiques et privées. Habitants du quartier Mar Mikhael, ils trouvent dans le festival "Nehna wil Amar wil Jiran" une opportunité de participer à renforcer l'identité publique de l'escalier Vendôme. L'intervention consiste à implanter au milieu de l'escalier, sur une volée de marches l'élément le plus représentatif de l'espace public : un banc. Il permet aux usagers les plus âgés surtout de s'y reposer à l'ombre d'un arbre. S'installer sur l'escalier de façon inhabituelle permet d'avoir une perception différente de cet espace public et de mieux appréhender la topographie du lieu. Ce banc public, bien que ludique, se veut aussi une réaction face à l'aseptisation, la privatisation et la pénurie des espaces publics à Beyrouth. Kamal Abi Ghosn for the financial help.
