It is rare if not impossible to pin down a critically acclaimed author for a lecture series so we were thrilled when novelist and translator Musharraf Ali Farooqi agreed to do a Mechanics of Fiction lecture series. Musharraf Ali Farooqi is the author of five original works of fiction for which he has been listed for the IMPAC and the Man Asian Literary Prize. He has translated Urdu classics Tilism-e Hoshraba and Dastan-e- Amir Hamza into Engish, as well as authored original children's fiction.
The Mechanics of Fiction lecture series is a window into the plot and structure of literature for both aspiring writers and literature enthusiasts. For seven weeks Musharraf will walk you through plot structures, narrative devices and character development in a series of interactive lectures held twice weekly. Musharraf will analyse and dissect stories with participants to establish how plot and structure work for different kinds of stories. Participants will delve deep into literary works to understand the essence of storytelling.
Musharraf's lectures are based on the ideas presented in Christopher Booker's celebrated text "Seven Basic Plots".
We have split the workshops in two parts: Part I, which will span over 4 weekends (a total of 16 hours) will take place in February All workshops are scheduled for 6-8 pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays beginning 04 February 2015.
The four themes for Part I are:
Theme 1 : OVERCOMING THE MONSTER (FEBRUARY 4th/5th)
In this particular theme an individual possessing heroic qualities encounters and neutralises a dark, or monstrous force. The antagonist threatens something valued by the hero and could take the form of a human, an animal, or a composite being.
Theme 2 : RAGS TO RICHES (FEBRUARY 11th/12th)
The protagonist is often in a vulnerable state of mind and is tormented by forces that prevent the individual from achieving stability. The character, however, evolves and claims a position of eminence, overcoming the demons he or she was once plagued with.
Theme 3 : THE QUEST (FEBRUARY 18th/19th)
In these stories, our interest is centered on the hero’s extensive and trying journey, ultimately leading up to a significant, life altering achievement. The protagonist is often guided by a supernatural or visionary direction.
Theme 4 : VOYAGE AND RETURN (FEBRUARY 25th/26th)
The main character is young and naive with a limited sense of acknowledgement of their surrounding environment. A life of monotony has led them into an inactive and careless existence. However, the character is suddenly shocked out of this lethargic reality and is engulfed by the unfamiliarity of an unknown situation.
The cost for the four weeks is 20,000 Rs/-, and the cost for each individual theme is 6000 Rs/-

• Responsible for the preparation/updating and maintenance of all technical documents including but not limited to project documents, user guides/manuals, process flows, product feature documents to be used in the organization and outside by the client/end users in easy and understandable language.
• Graphical representation of data/information in table, chats, flow diagrams etc. using Ms. Visio and other related software.
