. *AMIR KAMOLDEEN ABIONA'S HIJRAH 1446AH MESSAGE FOR MSSN LAGOS*
To my Muslim brothers and sisters, as we mark the beginning of a new Hijri year, let us take a moment to reflect on the significance of the Hijra of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). The Hijra represents a journey of faith, sacrifice, and resilience in the face of adversity. It serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of staying true to our beliefs and values, even in the most challenging of circumstances. Let us draw inspiration from the Prophet's example and strive to embody the principles of peace, justice, and compassion in our own lives.
I also want to address the President of Nigeria and urge him to listen to the voice of the majority of the Nigerian people regarding the LGBTQ laws. It is important to respect the cultural values and beliefs of the society and above all, respect the holy books, and it is clear that these laws are not aligned with the cultural norms of our society nor that of our creator. Please do away with it.
Furthermore, I call on world leaders to take immediate action to stop the ongoing atrocities and massacres in Palestine. The suffering of the Palestinian people is a grave injustice that demands our attention and intervention. It is heart-wrenching to witness the denial of basic necessities such as food and the unequal treatment between the Palestinian population and Israel. Let us raise our voices in solidarity with the oppressed and advocate for a just and lasting solution to the injustices in the region.
As we embark on a new Hijri year, let us reflect on the profound significance of the Hijra of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and draw inspiration from its lessons. The Hijra was not merely a physical migration from Makkah to Madinah; it was a testament to strategic planning, resilience, and unwavering faith in the face of oppression.
Just as the early Muslims faced persecution in Makkah, many of our fellow Muslim brothers and sisters around the world are enduring hardships and struggles today, particularly in places like Palestine. The Hijra serves as a reminder that in times of adversity, unity, strategic planning, and collective action are key to overcoming challenges and achieving liberation.
The lessons from the Hijra urge Muslim leaders worldwide to come together, set aside differences, and work collectively towards a common goal of securing freedom and justice for oppressed communities. By learning from history and drawing upon the courage and wisdom of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), we can strive to emulate the spirit of unity, resilience, and strategic planning that defined the early Muslim community.

MSSN Lagos Extends Eid-ul-Adha Greetings and Calls for Unity and Compassion
The Muslim Students' Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Lagos State Area Unit, under the leadership of Amir (President) Kamoldeen Abiona, extends heartfelt Eid-ul-Adha greetings to all Nigerians and the global Ummah.
This sacred occasion commemorates the profound lesson of sacrifice demonstrated by Prophet Ibrahim (AS), as captured in the Qur'an: "And We ransomed him with a great sacrifice" (Qur'an 37:107). This story teaches us the essence of submitting our most cherished desires to Allah’s will.
In the spirit of this occasion, the MSSN urges the Nigerian government to mirror this selflessness. Our leaders must sacrifice personal aspirations for the greater good of the people. Only through such nobility can we achieve lasting peace and prosperity in our beloved nation.
Fellow Nigerians are encouraged to draw lessons from the paramount love exemplified by Ibrahim (AS) towards his son, Ismail, and extend it to the entirety of humanity. Genuine love and compassion towards one another are the cornerstones of a harmonious society, as evident in the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), who said, "None of you will have faith until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself" (Sahih Bukhari).
Abiona emphasised that “we cannot ignore the heart-wrenching plight of Palestine. The organisation urges global leaders to prioritise the Palestinian issue and unite to halt the ongoing massacre perpetrated by Israel. The Qur'an enjoins us to stand against oppression.
This call to action is a moral imperative for all who champion justice and human rights.
To our brethren performing Hajj, we ask you to remember our nation in your supplications. Pray for divine intervention in restoring our economy, improving our living standards, and guiding our leaders to act justly and righteously. Sincere prayers offered in the holy lands hold immense power, and we must leverage this opportunity for the betterment of Nigeria.
As we celebrate Eid-ul-Adha, may our acts of devotion and sacrifice be accepted by Allah (SWT). May He shower His blessings upon us, our nation, and the world at large. Ameen.
Eid Mubarak from MSSN Lagos State Area Unit.

*MSSN Lagos Appeals for Peaceful Conduct Amid Nationwide Strike to Ensure Uninterrupted WAEC Exams for Nigerian Students*
June 3, 2024
The Muslim Students' Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Lagos State Area Unit, led by Amir (President) Kamoldeen Abiona, has expressed solidarity with the National Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) in their demands for an improved minimum wage and better working conditions. The MSSN acknowledges the economic challenges faced by Nigerian workers and supports their quest for justice and equity.
However, the MSSN has raised concerns about the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), which began on April 30 and will continue until June 24. This examination is crucial not only for Nigerian students but also for their counterparts in The Gambia, Liberia, and Sierra Leone. The week of June 3 to June 7 includes essential papers such as Physics, Economics, Government, and Civic Education.
While the strike affects Nigeria specifically, the exams will continue as scheduled for students in other WAEC member countries. Disruptions to the exams for Nigerian students would place them at a significant disadvantage compared to their West African peers.
In light of this, the MSSN Lagos appeals to all striking workers to ensure that their industrial action does not disrupt the conduct of these examinations within Nigeria. Successful completion of the WASSCE is vital for the academic progression and future opportunities of Nigerian students. Disruption could have far-reaching negative consequences, leaving Nigerian students behind their West African counterparts.
Additionally, the MSSN urges that the labor strike should not interrupt the flight schedules of those journeying to Saudi Arabia for the Hajj pilgrimage. The Hajj is a deeply significant religious obligation, and any disruption to the travel plans of pilgrims could cause considerable distress and logistical challenges.
The MSSN calls on the NLC, TUC, and all affiliate unions, including the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), to consider the broader impact of their actions and to allow WAEC conduct the examinations smoothly and without interruption within Nigeria. It is a collective responsibility to ensure that the educational aspirations of Nigerian youths are not hindered.
Furthermore, the MSSN urges the federal government to engage in meaningful dialogue with the labour unions to reach an amicable resolution that addresses the demands of the workers while safeguarding the educational interests of students.
The MSSN Lagos remains committed to supporting the rights of workers and the educational development of students. It trusts that all parties involved will act with the utmost consideration and responsibility to ensure that the strike action achieves its objectives without compromising the future of students.

Being the Welcome Address of the Amir (President), Muslim Students' Society of Nigeria, Lagos State Area Unit, at the occasion of the YOUTH CONFERENCE to commemorate the Children’s Day 2024
Assalamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh,
All praises are due to Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. We send blessings and peace upon the noble Prophet Muhammad (SAW), his family, his companions, and all those who follow his path until the Day of Judgment. Aameen.
Dear beloved brothers and sisters,
Today, we gather to commemorate World Children's Day with our annual Youth Conference. The theme for this edition is "Vanguards of the Truth." As Muslim children, you hold a significant role as the vicegerents of Allah on earth. Allah says in the Holy Quran, "Behold, your Lord said to the angels: 'I will create a vicegerent on earth.'..." (Quran, 2:30). This responsibility calls upon you to uphold truth, advocate for justice, and strive for the betterment of humanity.
As we engage in various enriching activities today, let us remember the importance of acquiring knowledge and developing skills. The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said, "Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim." (Sunan Ibn Majah). Your education and skills are crucial in becoming strong, knowledgeable, and able to uphold the truth in all situations.
It is with profound sadness and a sense of duty that we must reflect on the dire situation in Gaza. The massacre and genocide perpetrated by the State of Israel against Palestinians are grave injustices that the world recognises yet struggles to address effectively. The blockade of essential aid, the bombing of hospitals, and the killing of innocent women and children are acts of profound inhumanity. Despite these hardships, the determination and resilience of the Palestinians, coupled with their faith in Allah, provide a fervent reminder of the importance of preparedness, knowledge, and strength. May Allah grant the oppressed triumph over the oppressors, its allies and sponsors.
I urge you all to envision yourselves not just as today's children but as tomorrow's leaders, and that leadership begins today. You are the ones who will enforce goodness and justice. Strive to be strong in faith, intellect, and character.
Lastly, our heartfelt sympathies go out to the families, friends, and neighbours of those who tragically lost their lives and were injured in the mosque collapse that occurred on Sunday afternoon in Papa Ajao, Mushin. Majority of the people are children attending the Madrasah in that mosque. May Allah grant them Jannatul Firdaus and provide comfort to their grieving loved ones.
Let us use this occasion not only to celebrate but to renew our commitment to being Vanguards of the Truth, as taught by our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
"O Allah, bless our children for us, protect them from all harm, help them in obeying You and seeking Your pleasure, set their affairs right, ease their matters, and guide them to Your straight path. O Allah, make them a source of delight for us and make them from among the righteous and pious."
