Water a Pollinator Near You. Maybe this is the nudge you needed to add a water feature to your garden. The bees are so cute when they rest on the lotus pads to drink. An elegant wasp quenches its thirst. They are so docile while they are focused on drinking, I sprayed the hose to fill up buckets a little and nobody came near me.
Farmer Amanda attended her second US Composting Council Conference (USCC) this week in Daytona Beach, FL. She was able to rub elbows with community composters from around the nation. There is no replacement for these wonderful learning opportunites. Amanda helped to organize a USCC volunteer event ahead of the conference at a local community garden run by Halifax Urban Ministries. During the conference Amanda; served as a session support volunteer, made countless contacts within the composting community and beyond that will help her to improve the program at Eat South; met with her USCC composting mentor, Amy Freeman Rosa from Michigan, and continued to cultuvate relationships with the amazing members of the Community Compost Coalition of the Institute for Local Self-Reliance. To top it all off Amanda met with two of Eat South’s former staff who had since relocated to West Palm Beach. A special thanks to the USCC, US Council of Mayors via the City of Montgomery, Alabama Government Grants Department for financial support. We applied for and won a grant from the US Council of Mayors for Community Composting through the City of Montgomery Grants Department. With our grant we will be partnering with the area community gardens to offer workshops on vermicomposting, home scale composting and community composting.
