After working on Leaving Las Vegas for 2 months, I thought it was time to go to the original source of the material. Like with most book to movie adaptations, artistic license was used, and unfortunately in this case leaving out and changing some of the important moments/ messages. After reading this I have no doubt that it was autobiographical in the sense that John did see himself as Ben. Very compelling and tragic material.
