Only in silence can you hear the whisper. Unfortunately, most cases are diagnosed in their later stages when the prognosis is poor. Early detection saves lives.
Raise awareness about the symptoms of ovarian cancer, encourage women to listen to their bodies and be their own health advocates, and honor those who have been forever silenced by the disease. The mission of the Ovarian Cancer Day of Silence is to raise awareness about the symptoms and risks of ovarian cancer and to encourage women to be their own health advocates. Participants take a vow of sile
nce for the day, encouraging women to listen for the signs of ovarian cancer and honoring those who have been forever silenced by the disease. Because there is no screening test for ovarian cancer, women must know the subtle symptoms of ovarian cancer and listen to their bodies. More than 20,000 women in the United States are diagnosed with ovarian cancer each year, and approximately 15,000 women die annually from the disease. However, if diagnosed and treated early, when the cancer is confined to the o***y, the five-year survival rate is over 90 percent. That is why it is imperative that the early signs and symptoms of the disease are recognized, not only by women, but also by their friends, families and the medical community. The Ovarian Cancer Day of Silence is dedicated loving memory to Carol Watterson, Stage IV ovarian cancer fighter. The Ovarian Cancer Day of Silence is an official project of New Sun Rising: http://www.newsunrising.org/project/dayofsilence/.
