Camp season is over for the summer. We had great numbers in both our skills camp and our parent daughter camp. We attended the TABC shootout and took 38 girls to LCU team camp. Lady Sandies, committed to one another. Our skills and strength has also been very well attended having 35+ future Sandies a day.
Not to mention a very quick trip in the middle of skills camp to watch Bella play in the TGCA all-star game to which she represented the program very well.
We also had a very generous donation of camp T-Shirts this year from Andrus Brothers. Thank you to all the camp coaches, high school volunteers, Coach Fluhman, parents for the help to LCU, our dedicated Lady Sandies, and Andrus Brothers for a great month of June of our basketball program.
Bella Edwards representing our Lady Sandie Basketball program tonight in the TGCA all-star game in Arlington. It’s an awesome honor that is so well deserved!! Go Bella!!
The Sandies go 2-1 with victories over Ft Bend Marshall and Red Oak and a close loss to Rockwall Big Tyme Sports Prep at the TABC basketball tournament in Dallas this weekend. The future looks bright!
Tonight at Parent Daughter Camp Hadley Paddock talked to our parents about the special bond she and her dad had that started through the game of basketball at birth.
Hadley’s dad, Chris Paddock, was the coach at Caprock when she was born. Her earliest memories of her dad included time spent sitting and rolling a basketball back and forth with Chris. She remembers him holding her up to the rim to shoot basket after basket.
The love for the game of basketball was something that the two shared from the very beginning of Hadley’s life. However, Chris always let Hadley know that her identity was not and would never be as a basketball player. She was much more in his eyes than that.
He also made it clear that he wanted Hadley to play because she wanted to play and not for him or anyone else. He always assured her that he would love her no matter what. He wanted her to play only if she wanted to play and never forced the game on her.
Just a wonderful testament to what it is supposed you to look like.
Future Sandies hard at work last week at AHS basketball camp!!
Tonight Coach Houchin and Coach Thomas shared what made their relationship with their parents so special when it came to the bond created on the hardwood when they were younger.
Coach Houchin said that growing up her parents supported her and taught her to have the mindset to “compete everyday.”
She remembers how proud her mom was after we won State in 2019 and again how proud she was of her when we lost at the buzzer in 2020 to go back to state because she knew Z had given everything she could to be her best. Coach Houchin said she will never forget the embrace on both occasions because in the highest of high moments (winning a State Championship) to the lowest of lows (losing at the buzzer) her moms embrace was the same…. filled with love and pride for her hard work and dedication.
Coach Thomas said that growing up she wanted to be like her dad. She enjoyed the times her dad would show her his letterman jacket and dreamed of filling hers with patches and accolades just like his. She said her bond with her dad really grew through the game of basketball. The gym is where he influenced her the most because of the time spent and the life lesson taught. Her take away was the time spent together taught her much more than the game of basketball it helped build character and confidence which has afforded her the blessings she has today.
Both agree that they believe the support system they received from their parents not only helped shape them as players, it allowed them to grow as young ladies that now has helped them shape themselves into the women they are today.
