I grew up not being fond of the Avocado because of it's mushy texture . Even if the adults in the family would remind us to eat the healthy fruit I would opt to skip. Occassionally I would taste it when prepared with ice and milk...specially condensed milk...then someone let us taste the Ice Candy version which was yum when mixed with a lot of milk and sugar...eating it without the other ingredients is impossible for me.

Fast forward to today with this new mindset about health and the food I eat, or I should eat, this green mushy fruit now gives me the "kilig"...I smile when I see it in the market and I gladly grab money in my pocket so I could buy a kilo. I am joyful to open one and see the green soft meat inside and would you believe I now eat it bare together with my proteins...Milk and sugar ? No thanks I prefer it plain and healthy. Avocado is one of the best sources of healthy fat our body needs and is also low carb , a perfect pair for our meaty meals...so it is possible for our "no" to be a "yes " someday specially if it is for the better. Baking that is easy and healthy !

I love baking but for some time I stopped doing it because of health reasons, my asthma reacts to the fine dust of flour, the doctor advised us to let go of sweet treats for the sake of our liver and truly the process is demanding with space and energy. I thought I would continually lie low already. But thanks to Low Carb lifestyle I can now go back to do what I love without the guilt and with less time needed.

Omega 3 is an important fatty acid nutrient that is important for our body to take. The usual food recommended high in Omega 3 is Salmon, but for the common Filipino it is not really affordable in the budget. But do not despair we have an alternative that is fit for the Pinoy Budget, the humble Sardines...equally rich in Omega 3 and readily available in the market...in the big fish markets you can get it at P70-80 / kilo, so there is no reason for us to miss on this nutrient. You can enjoy it fried or cooked as Paksiw, more yummy if you also add coconut milk. Happy healthy eating. God bless us all.

What you used to not so enjoy can turn into your delight if you change your mindset. Food that you enjoy more for the taste but lacking nutrients become bland and the nutrient dense food that may not be necessarily bursting with the salt and sweetness become exciting for you to eat...The key? Right Mindset.

Ask yourself do you want food to be your medicine ? or Medicine to be your food someday?

I am still learning , one step at a time, working towards healthy diet and praying for a healthy body. May God bless us all.
