Wanted to give everyone an update on what some of the insurance companies are doing to help out. If you have any questions about your insurance needs please let me know, I would love to help you.

Effective Monday 4/13/2020, the insurance commissioner of California ordered all auto insurance companies to return SOME insurance premiums during this COVID-19 emergency.

While all companies will be handling this in different ways, it looks like most are adopting a rule of 15% for the months of March and April, and MAYBE into May if the “Shelter in Place' act is still in effect. Some companies are doing a monetary number, such as Nationwide's $50, but a majority are doing the percentage-based return.

That being said, we do not know when this will be returned, or if it will just adjust your bill going forward. Every company is different in this, and they are still in the early stages of figuring out how to apply.

We have had clients reach out to us saying they have heard “from a friend” or ”in the news” that insurance companies are giving ALL of their premiums back. That is false. It is either a percentage or a flat rate, but nothing that comes close to making insurance free.

Your insurance company will reach out to you either via email or postage letting you know of their decision and how you will see your policy get affected.

Good afternoon everyone, I hope you are all well and surviving week two of our State mandated quarantine.

I wanted to take a moment and offer some thoughts around the financial impacts this is having on many of my friends and family as it relates to their personal insurance plan. I have had several calls from friends asking what will happen if they don’t pay their Auto or Home insurance. Here are some ideas and options that I hope will help.

First ,
Before you decide to let your insurance lapse, please call your insurance agent and see what programs your insurance company is offering.

Many are allowing you to skip or miss payments during this crisis. Letting your insurance lapse may cause you more money when you recover and look to reinsure your vehicles or other property. Insurance companies don’t like lapses in coverage.

Second,
Some companies will or can impose insurance on you at a much higher rate than you were currently paying. This in the long run will cost you more money.

Third,
Talk to your agent or broker and complete a review of your current needs. You may find ways to lower you monthly payment by making some minor changes to your current coverage.
