Bingham's Pond LNR
It's always good to chat to the various visitors to the pond - both locals and visitors from further afield, hopefully you found the leaflets useful. More specifically, a particular mention to Vivienne and Raymond who were both clearly passionate about the pond. Today's highlights were the damselflies with a Blue-tailed Damselfly showing it was a pretty efficient predator. Finally, a few photos from the last two days of the cygnets, young Coot and young Mallard - the brood of 8 well grown ducklings is a remarkable effort from the female.

BBC Springwatch
Wasn't it great to see Glasgow feature on Springwatch this year. There was footage from some of the LNRs and they also featured iconic species such as Peregrine Falcon, Water Vole and Kestrel. Well done to all 'friends' and other volunteers that helped. Some links

Bingham's Pond LNR
Following on from yesterday's news about the Garganey, a big shout out to local member and volunteer, John. He was undertaking one of his regular litter picks yesterday afternoon when he and a visitor spotted the Garganey. The information was posted on Twitter and a Whats App Group and photographs taken by another local volunteer. These were subsequently shared with other key social media sites including our own. All in all a positive story illustrating the good side of social media! Unfortunately, there was no sign of the bird early this morning. The male swan has been acting aggressively over the last few days so its no surprise that the small duck has gone.

Bingham's Pond LNR
Another rare visitor to the pond - a drake Garganey. Seen and photographed early this evening (14th). Unlike most of Britain’s ducks the Garganey is a summer visitor, arriving from its wintering grounds in Africa.

Hogganfield Park LNR
An excellent morning's work at Hogganfield yesterday. Eight of our nest boxes checked and all were occupied; the three planters, that are part of the shelters we helped refurbish, were all 'tidied' up and new plants planted; and, finally, rubbish was collected from in and around the planters and nest boxes.

Hamiltonhill Claypits LNR
A bat walk on Saturday night

πŸ¦‡πŸ‘€Batwalk! Back by popular demand

Did you know that a common pipistrelle bat can eat around 2000 flying insects in a single night?

Come for a sunset walk in the Claypits and meet our flying friends, the bats!

Using bat detectors, we can get some insight into their lives.

Bingham's Pond LNR
Another quick update from yesterday. Only one Mallard duckling seen. On a positive note, the vegetation around the pond is growing rapidly and the fallen tree, which we asked the Council not to remove, is providing even more cover. Perhaps this could be replicated elsewhere in the pond? Finally, a dead rat was spotted.
