🥁 Drum roll please….

🍁 The Seedhouse fall label is here! Featuring the beautiful work of local Steamboat artist 🙌🏽

We asked Lacey a few questions so our coffee community could get to know her a bit!

📍 When did you move here full time + What drew you to Steamboat?

I moved here in 2009 to go to CMC and to snowboard, but the steamboat curse got me good and it’s been my home ever since.

🎨 What are some of your favorite mediums to work with in your art + what do you draw from for inspiration?

I feel like I’ve always been a little creative, but digital media is a totally new frontier for me. I bought an ipad when I got knee surgery last spring and Ive been using that with Procreate to make my designs. My inspiration really just comes from the things that I love! The mountains, the desert, surf culture, and coffee ironically.

☕️ Are you a coffee drinker? Tell us what you love about coffee/ what do you look for in a coffee?!

I am a massive coffee drinker! I love everything about it, but it’s really the morning ritual that I love the most. Firing up the espresso machine, grinding the beans, frothing up the milk. The whole process is just relaxing and I look forward to it every morning when I start my day. Or even when I go camping, I’ll open my eyes in the morning and think “I can’t wait to make some coffee”. Lately I’ve been super big on espresso, but I’m not too picky with regular coffee. I’m really into anything but decaf, that stuff sucks haha.

Lacey works at awesome local lunch spot and we asked her about it:

I’ve been working there for about 9 years and I’m one of the managers. Kris, the owner, really supports us in everything we do and has helped me grow so much as a person. He’s like the big brother I never had growing up. He really knows how to run a business!

🌱 The land that this coffee grows on was originally utilized for corn, sugar cane production, with a smaller portion dedicated to coffee. Slowly, Manuel and his family planted fruit trees throughout the land, and replaced cornfields with Bourbon, Caturra, and Pache coffee plants.

This bright brew is delicious on drip & makes a mean cold brew! It’s fruit forward character makes it a fun cuppa for warm summer days ☀️

Tasting notes: Brown sugar, cocoa, plum

☕️ this Hondo makes an amazing single origin espresso— one of our faves for a nice cortado or straight shot of espresso.

Two primary producers contribute to this lot, Silvestre Vasquez + Joel Lopez.

🏔Silvestre is always pushing for a better quality and has expanded his farm into higher altitudes of a mountain called Pico Congolon which is surrounded by the Reserva Biologica de Opalaca and Reserva Biologica Volcan Pacavita.

🌱 Joel Lopez is a fourth-generation coffee producer. He runs the farm Los Lesquines, where his family began growing coffee in 1865.

🌱 Behind every cup of coffee, is the farmer who grows the beans.

☕️ In the coffee industry, prioritizing a move toward direct trade, and ensuring sustainable + livable wages for coffee farmers is essential. In a sector where exploitation is the norm, it’s imperative that everyone, from roaster to consumer, consider how our purchasing power is contributing to the wellbeing of all people + protection of the environment.

🕊 At Seedhouse, we are committed to ethically sourcing all our beans. Currently, we are purchasing all our organic green beans at fair trade prices from organizations we trust, but we want to move the dial forward. We’re actively moving toward direct trade options by building relationships with farmers around the world. 🇨🇴 🇲🇲

🌿 Keep your eye out for some exciting shifts in the coming months! We’re committed to bringing you, our coffee community, a cuppa that embodies the best quality + integrity from growth, to harvest, to roast, to cup.

✨Today is the day! We’re launching our brand refresh + our new summer seasonal! This seasonal blend is fun + fresh bringing together three of our single origin coffees from Ethiopia, Mexico, and Honduras. ☕️

We are in LOVE with the seasonal packaging with art by local Steamboat artist, Emily Philbrick, featuring her beautiful piece: Colorful Bear🤍

We asked Emily some questions about Steamboat, her work + coffee; here is what she said:

📍When did you move here full time + What drew you to Steamboat?

I moved to steamboat full-time 2019. I was drawn to the adventurous, outdoorsy spirit of the community.

🎨What are some of your favorite mediums to work with in your art + what do you draw from for inspiration?

I love working with both acrylic and oil paints. I draw my inspiration from the scenes and spirits that surround me. I am especially drawn to bright colorful images.

☕️ Are you a coffee drinker? Tell us what you love about coffee/ what do you look for in a coffee?!

I do love coffee! My favorite time of day is early morning, before I interact with anyone (including my phone) I make fresh cup of coffee and start to paint. During that one cup of coffee, that is the time when the magic Happens as I like to call it. I look for my coffee to not be too oily and to be certified organic and fair trade.

Reflections + morning coffee today on these words from Martin Luther King Jr.:

“It really boils down to this: that all life is interrelated. We are all caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied into a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.

Did you ever stop to think that you can’t leave for your job in the morning without being dependent upon most of the world? You get up in the morning and go to the bathroom and reach over for the sponge, and that’s handed you by a Pacific Islander. You reach for a bar of soap, and that’s given to you at the hands of a Frenchman. And then you go into the kitchen to drink your coffee for the morning and that is poured into your cup by a South American. And maybe you want tea: that’s poured into your cup by a Chinese.

Or maybe you desire to have cocoa for breakfast, and that’s poured into your cup by a West African. And then you reach over for your toast, and that’s given you at the hands of an English-speaking farmer, not to mention the baker. And before you finish eating breakfast in the morning, you’ve depended on more than half the world.

This is the way our universe is structured. It is its interrelated quality.

We aren’t going to have peace on earth until we recognize this basic fact of the interrelated structure of all reality”

My well-being is connected to your well being. “Our” well-being is connected to “their” well-being. Let’s be good to one another. Let’s choose kindness + generous assumption toward one another, at every chance we get 🤍✌🏽☕️
