EducationWorks
Opportunities for Learning. Skills for Life.
EducationWorks engages children and young people by providing high quality educational programs that make the school day whole and reengages disconnected young adults to education.
We are shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the death of our leader, Miles H. Wilson.
For nearly a decade, Miles was the face and the heart of our organization, a driving force whose service in support of at-risk children and young adults positively impacted thousands of lives across the city of Philadelphia. At the same time, Miles oversaw the growth of EducationWorks to become a leading voice for out of school-time programs and PowerCorpsPHL, the AmeriCorps service program administered by EducationWorks for the City of Philadelphia.
Our prayers and deepest sympathies go out to his family and the legion of friends and colleagues who, like all of us, will miss him dearly.
Our fiscal year ends on June 30th, and we want to ask you directly: will you support EducationWorks with an end-of-tax-year donation?
Together, our donors help us provide a continuum of care from kindergarten to adulthood that addresses trauma, economic and cultural barriers, has a positive impact, and is actively transforming the lives of those we serve. With your support, EducationWorks can do things like:
• Collaborate with industry and community leaders to provide enhancements and experiences, exposing students to career opportunities that they may never had considered previously.
• Offer field trips that encourage experiential learning, allowing students to actively engage with real-world experiences to deepen their understanding and spark their interests.
• Prevent the “summer slide” through student-focused high-impact summer OST programs in Philadelphia and Camden, fostering seamless transitions from school to summer and back.
Your donations have a powerful collective impact on the EducationWorks community. They provide children and young adults with invaluable opportunities to explore and shape their futures. Our donors play a crucial role in supporting EducationWorks' mission to create opportunities for learning and skills for life. Now is the time to make a direct impact - don't wait—donate today at https://educationworks.org/donate/

Happy Memorial Day from EducationWorks!
Using an activity from our partner Techbridge Girls, OST students at Gideon Elementary School not only rose to the challenge to design and build their own seats for the “equity” table, but they upped the ante by engaging in friendly competition to see whose chair was the best decorated. From the look of these seats – all of them won the competition!
We are proud to be a member of the Philadelphia STEM Equity Collective! PSEC is doing great work within our community to increase the number of Black, Latinx, and women Philadelphians going into STEM careers, and they regularly feature women making a difference in our community.
Meet Philly’s own Christina McCoy, a chef and urban agriculturalist who grows over ninety types of herbs, greens, and vegetables at The Sustainable Farm, the first indoor growing farm in Reading Terminal Market. She realized there was a need for communities to access fresh produce in Philly so vertical growing was her SOLUTION.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month! Social and emotional wellness is one of the cornerstones of our programming for children and young adults, and we'd like to echo this important message from NAMI: Your worth is not measured by your productivity. You deserve love and healing just as you are. You are .
To all the mothers and those who love with a mother’s heart, thank you and Happy Mother's Day!
Thank you to everyone that supported EW at our Co****le Tournament last night! Everyone had a great time and the competition was fierce. The final round ended up being a rematch of last year's final, with Team Cornholio trying to defend their title. But it was not to be, and the title and trophy went to the challenger, Team 215. Thanks again- and the challenge is already on for next year!

On Saturday, our partners at the McCall Home and School Association held their annual gala. Part of the proceeds of this event support our Socialized Recess program at the McCall School in Society Hill. In this program, Demetrics McGhee (Coach D), engages children in structured recess activities which promote team and community building, conflict resolution, and leadership skills by encouraging cooperative play rather than “schoolyard chaos.” Thank you to the McCall HSA for your partnership!

The game we call Co****le has mysterious origins. Some say Native Americans invented it by stuffing animal bladders with corn or pebbles. Some say it was created by a 14th century cabinet maker. An 1883 patent for "Parlor Quoits" describes a similar game. What we do know is that playing Co****le is a good time, and you should come play with us on Thursday, May 11! Funds raised will support EW's programs for students and young adults in Philadelphia and beyond! Get your tickets now!
