What is a Deep Plane Facelift, and why is it considered the gold standard?

A deep plane facelift is a gold-standard surgical procedure that lifts, tightens, and contours the skin of the face, tightening the tissues beneath the muscles of the face. It can also reduce wrinkles and remove excess fat. The results of a deep plane facelift can last from 15 – 20 years, unlike most superficial facelifts that only tighten the skin above the muscles.

During the procedure, an incision is made under the chin to access the deep planes of the face. The deep planes are layers of tissue that run horizontally across your forehead, cheeks, and jawline. The incision is then extended along these planes to access all areas of your face that need work. The surgeon will tighten sagging skin and muscle tissue using stitches. Fat may also be removed from these areas.

What is the recovery, and when can I see the results of a Deep Plane Facelift?

You should be able to return home within a few hours after surgery with minimal pain or bruising (if any) with no visible signs that you have had a facelift. If you experience significant swelling or bruising, it may take up to two weeks before it subsides enough for you to resume normal activities like driving or returning to work. The results are very natural looking without an over-tightened appearance or unusual skin folds.

Why did you want to undergo these procedures? And how long were you thinking about it for?

I disliked my Roman-shaped nose for most of my adult life. Had a bad profile. The tip seemed to droop more and appeared bigger with age. I was concerned about having rhinoplasty so late in life, but it’s the best decision I made. With my facelift, my jawline was less defined and I wanted my confidence back. It was a big decision, but again I couldn’t have been more pleased with the results. Both were a complete success.

What was your experience of the surgery and the recovery?
