โœจAbout living with purposeโœจ

The more we explore the spaces inside of us, and we allow that space to be seen and expressed, the more we might find ourselves asking: "How do I live my life with more purpose? How do I make a more meaningful existence?"
The more we lose the "I" (or the small self) and we tap into "us", into unity, into the bigger Self, the more we begin to realize that living with purpose is ultimately about bringing our attention to others. There is no other greater purpose than nurturing union in a world that is shattered by separation.
And eventually realizing, like the great Alan Watts used to say, that:
"The meaning of life is just to be alive. It is so plain and so obvious and so simple. And yet, everybody rushes around in a great panic as if it were necessary to achieve something beyond themselves."
Finding joy in the simplicity of being alive.
Helping others finding joy in the simplicity of being alive.
Wouldn't that be enough of a purpose?
Wouldn't that be the real essence of yoga?

"Get up and open.
And let the wind of life come and you dance with it, you participate with it, with complete openness.
And if you find a part of you that struggles with anything that is happening, you let it go.
You die daily as you let go.
You grow daily as you let go."

How do we generate more yoga?
As a daily yoga practicioner I often find myself asking this question: how can I bring more yoga in my day, even when I'm not in the "sanctuary" of my yoga mat?
There's no shortcut and there's no easy fix.
We live in a world of forms, in a reality (or at least one of them) full of illusions and injustices. Many distractions and even more worries, most of which are self created.
We know that the breath is at the base of the yoga practice and, on a bigger scale, is the foundation of our lives as well.
When I focus on my breath, when I am able to be fully present to that flow of inhalation and exhalation, when I can purposely slow the breath down...then I am able to slow the mind down, and even to slow the time down.
The world will still be a place full of dualities and contradictions. But then I am able to be in this world as a better human being, with a higher awareness of my centre and my purpose.
Day in/Day out, this is what is all about.
I breath and I listen.
And in that simple and yet revolutionary act, I can bring a little bit more yoga in the every day mundane life.
Happy new month to all of you.
Namaste.

Bits and pieces of a January that's gone.
No new year's resolutions this time.
I just want to love and trust, that would be enough.
And to trust that I can love the unknown.
I am loving it even when I'm fearing it.
Months ago, up in the Himalayas, a teacher reminded me:
"A soft heart is a stronger one."
To a softer and stronger February then.

"(...) Krishnamacharya uses a simple analogy from everyday life to help us understand the concept of yoga as samskara or preparation process. "The mind" he says "is like a vessel used for cooking. I have just used the vessel to make some soup. However, I want to boil milk with the same vessel. What do I do? I clean the vessel so that it becomes ready for boiling milk.
It's the same with yoga. Our mind is the vessel that is used for many purposes. It carries impressions from our past actions, and we do not want these impressions to affect our future actions. So we need to go through a preparation process that cleans the vessel and makes it fit for further action."

November in the south. ๐ŸŒด ๐Ÿฅฅ ๐ŸŒŠ
Connecting to the new places,
coming back home to old ones.
New people appear and bring their light, even just a spark;
and I gotta tell myself that yes, that's enough.
I gotta thank and feel the love.
And feel the nostalgia.
They make me more human.
November in the south, and now is gone.
December makes me wonder:
will I remember? will I surrender?
๐Ÿ“ธ thanks to for capturing some moments of pure cuteness with my cow friends during one of the many sunsets in one of my dearest places in India.

Mysore and surroundings.
I'm moving while I'm grounding.
To heal is to share,
to breath some better air.
To know that in spite of
suffering and injustice
we are all still connected:
love deep
and you won't ever
regret it.

As we are approaching the Diwali festival here in India (which is essentially the celebration of the victory of light onto darkness) just a friendly reminder to never forget who we truly are.
Let's shine.
Let's remain open.
Let us never close.
Happy Diwali ๐ŸŽ‡๐ŸŽ‡๐ŸŽ‡
Happy remembrance of our unique and almighty light.

"Our bodies are known to end, but the embodied self is enduring, indestructible and immesurable (...) weapons do not cut it, fire does not burn it, waters do not wet it (...) it is enduring, all pervasive, fixed, immovable and timeless."

"Attention is not the same thing as concentration. Concentration is exclusion; attention, which is total awareness, excludes nothing. It seems to me that most of us are not aware, not only of what we are talking about but of our environment, the colours around us, the people, the shape of the trees, the clouds, the movement of water. Perhaps it is because we are so concerned with ourselves, with our own petty little problems, our own ideas, our own pleasures, pursuits and ambitions that we are not objectively aware. And yet we talk a great deal about awareness (...) We are not aware of outward things or of inward things. If you want to understand the beauty of a bird, a fly, or a leaf, or a person with all his complexities, you have to give your whole attention which is awareness. And you can give your whole attention only when you care, which means that you really love to understand, that you give your whole heart and mind to find out.
Such awareness is like living with a snake in the room; you watch its every movement, you are very, very sensitive to the slightest sound it makes. Such a state of attention is total energy; in such awareness the totality of yourself is revealed in an instant."
(J. Krishnamurti - Freedom from the known)

A whole lotta movements this past month!
(I can hear my Vata dosha creak and groan) ๐ŸŒฌ๐Ÿ˜…
Israel gave me the light and the storm: the cities and the sea, the hills and mounts and desert. Land of contraddictions, of beautiful connections.
Rajasthan blessed me with its fierce sun, with the rich culture and the people's hospitality, regardless of religion or nationality.
Everywhere I felt home, let it be Shalom, Salam Aleikum or Hari Om ๐Ÿ™
Everywhere I enjoyed the life's celebration, the abundance of food and the wonders of creation.
Now time to move again, as life is moving all the time.
This time I'll move to what is known, to a place that reminds me who I was.
Thank you. To all of you. You know who you are!

Athens, you have been kind to me.
It has been a slow and much needed transition, from the indian subcontinent to the "old continent".
Days filled with mindful walking through rich history and mindful breathing at any given opportunity. Greek days filled also with feta, baklavas, galaktobureko and
Mythos beer...which are not to be taken for granted! ๐Ÿ˜‹
Thank you and .pantaleon for your kindness and for the fun and for being the best guides.

Funny enough, I can balance on my hands and twist my body at the same time much easier than I do when it is required to be balanced when things are going wrong in life, when expectations or own ideas are twisted and eventually they turn into delusion. That famous "yoga off the mat" thing, right? What a work.
On this auspicious day for the Hindu culture called Dussehra, in which it is invoked and celebrated the power of goodness over the evil, I want to set my intention deep once again. And then let it sit inside, to the innermost layer.
A daily effort is required, which comes from daily discipline, until it is no longer an effort because it turns into a habit (hopefully, a positive one) ๐Ÿ˜Š
A daily reminder that says: do the work, no matter how small. Intention plus repetition equals mastery. A daily reminder, indeed.

As another chapter is about to finish, I find myself dealing with several feelings. Though the attitude of gratitude is the strongest that I'm feeling right now.
And it is the one which allows me to fully embrace the end of this experience with an open heart ๐Ÿ’“
As always, thank you India for the all the teachings and the beauties... you're one of a kind!
Thank you for another excellent collaboration, it has been really sweet and meaningful ๐Ÿ˜‹
And thank YOU to all the students that gave me the opportunity to share what I know, while learning everyday something new. You are making my activity as a teacher super worthy. Love you all ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿค

My internal expression in those moments when the mind is quiet and everything around is changing and I don't mind it, and I burn what's not necessary and it no longer hurts, it would be like: ๐Ÿค™๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿค™
Little steps we shall take in order to become "the eye without the I" like it has been so beautifully stated at Tush*ta not long ago.
Patience and persistence!

What a great privilege I had to share these times with some awesome students/human beings/truth seekers on their last day in India. ๐Ÿ™

Living and feeling this powerful full moon which comes along with a lunar eclipse. We are all feeling it, even those of us who won't be able to see it.
Finding myself dealing with a lot of emotions, I am trusting that whatever is leaving it is not part of the path.
As I remind to all the students whom I have the privilege to be practicing with, I also remind to myself: the more we resist, the scarier it will be. Eclipses are all about surrendering.
This full moon marks an ending. It is bound to be a really emotional experience full of release.
This is not the time to manifest.
It is the time to embrace. Embrace whatever is about to come our way.
And respond to this time from a place of devotion. Devotion to ourselves, first of all.
Happy full moon & eclipse. May it be a time to take rest and create awareness. So that we can come to a deeper understanding of what we give to others and to ourselves. And how that has been out of balance. Eventually, it is always about finding balance in the midst of a wobbly world.
