My mom and I had the most incredible time exploring and barrier islands with - It still feels very much like a hidden gem of a destination. AD

Enjoy being on the water, hiking, wildlife and cute towns and shops along the shore. We stayed in Wachapreague, one of cute coastal towns and met some of the most amazing people who made us feel incredibly welcome. There is definitely something to say about that Southern Charm!

travel tips incoming! Just returned from the gorgeous Island of Hawai’i with , and I wanted to kick things off by sharing some important tips on visiting. These islands are so beautiful and sacred and need to be protected if we want to enjoy them for many years to come 🌊☀️

1️⃣ Embrace the Spirit of Aloha: Beyond just a greeting, ‘Aloha’ is a philosophy and way of life in Hawaii. When visiting the islands, embody the Aloha spirit by showing respect and kindness to both the land and its people. The relationship that Hawaiians have with their land is so unique and special in this modern world, and something we can all learn from and take back home with us.

2️⃣ Explore Beyond the Beach: This island has so much more than pretty beaches - from lush rainforests to dramatic volcanic landscapes, this is the perfect adventurer’s island, so make sure to get out and explore!

3️⃣ Go Slow: This island is the largest of the Hawaiian islands and takes quite a bit of time to navigate. Don’t try to rush your trip here. Take it slow so you have plenty of time to experience everything that the island has to offer without rushing to tick things off the bucket list (I think 1 week is ideal).

4️⃣ Support Local: While the big resorts are beautiful and worth staying at, I really encourage you to get off the resort to shop and eat at local spots to give back to the local community.

5️⃣ Leave No Trace: The beauty of the Island of Hawai’i is ours to protect 🙏🏻 Practice responsible tourism by respecting wildlife, staying on marked trails, obeying signage, and leaving no trace during your visit.

6️⃣ Respect the Power of Mother Nature: With so many different climate zones and powerful ocean currents, it’s important to stay alert and humble to the power of mother nature during your visit to stay safe. Stay high above ground when raining, keep up to date on the island’s volcanic activity, and as Hawaiians always say: never turn your back on the ocean.
