Black Girls Code MIA: Creating Future Tech Divas
Black Girls CODE is a non-profit organization dedicated to teaching girls ages 7-17 about computer programming and digital technology. Founded in 2011 our organization has grown from a small grassroots organization started in the San Francisco Bay Area into an internationally chapter with over 14 locations across the US (Memphis, Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, Los Angeles, Raleigh-Durham, Detroit, Chicago, New York, Washington DC, Bay Area, Seattle, Miami) and in Johannesburg, South Africa.
As a non-profit organization committed to inclusion and social equity, we believe the tech talent gap is one of the most important issues facing our nation today and the diversity gap in the STEM workforce poses a major threat to future innovation worldwide.
We work to reduce the current opportunity gap by connecting Black and brown girls to STEM resources and opportunities. We intentionally and equitably create safe and inclusive spaces for these young innovators and help them learn and grow into tomorrow’s STEM leaders.
