Dina Melendez fell into agility with her Soft-Coated Wheaten Terriers in 2006 and was captivated with training her dogs in dog sports. Besides agility, her dogs have competed in barn hunt, scent work, tricks, rally and FAST CAT. Her first dogs, Boone and Raphael appeared in the Emmy award-winning movie "The Normal Heart" staring Julia Roberts and Mark Ruffalo which was where her love for teaching “tricks” expanded.

​Dina's agility partners included MACH3 PACH "Boone", a 6-time AKC Invitational qualifier, multiple AKC Nationals qualifier and number #1 ranked SCWT 2015 & 2016, "Raphael", OA, OAJ, RATI, RATN and MACH PACH2 “Vida” who is Dina’s most titled and versatile SCWT. At 2 years of age, Vida placed 4th overall in her first NW1, placing 3rd in Exteriors and was invited to her first of several AKC Agility Invitationals finishing as the Top SCWT at Invitationals in 2022 as the #1 Preferred SCWT. Also a multiple AKC National Qualifier, Vida was the first SCWT to attend, qualify and place, in her class, at the Westminster National Championship. Vida also has multiple titles in Barn Hunt and AKC Scent Work, as well as Tricks Titles and is currently enjoying retirement competing in Rally. Dina’s newest partner is a Lakeland Terrier, Andele! and shows promise to be a multifaceted sport dog, who is currently titled in agility, barn hunt, scent work, tricks and FAST CAT.

Dina’s classes focus on solid foundations on all pieces of agility equipment, adding in handling, plus concepts and behaviors in incremental steps. Dina strives to instill confidence in her students as they learn the tools needed to perform the necessary fundamentals. Along the way, they also develop appropriate habits. Dina's many years of teaching these behaviors helps the handler understand the aspects of positive reinforcement and behavior generalization, all while having fun!

Congratulations to club member Ariel Fierro and her whippet Br**ca for being invited to the 2024 AKC Agility Invitational!!!! What a huge achievement!

Merlot celebrated her first birthday in agility class tonight! 🥳 We did tunnel -> tunnel for the first time which is always a puppy favorite! And then everyone got doggie ice cream 🍦

Just a friendly reminder that registration opens today for students returning to the same class at the same time/day. You may register any time between now and Thursday, and starting Friday if you do not register, someone can take your spot.

Starting on Friday, you can join an existing class but typically need instructor approval to ensure the class is the right fit for your dog. Reach out to the instructor, registrar, or training director with any questions.

Some classes are open for registration to everyone now! Some of these classes include Basic Canine Manners, Walking and Recall Games, Puppy STARS, advanced canine manners.

Most classes in this new session will begin on August 5th and run for 7 weeks.

If you’re like me and you frequently forget to pay for your building rental🤦🏻‍♀️, we’ve just hung new signs with QR codes. Simply open your phone’s camera to scan and the link will take you straight to our rental payment page!!

Due to an air conditioning malfunction, Rosie and Janie are cancelling classes tonight 7/17. Rosie's classes that are 4pm and later are cancelled. Stay tuned about make up or refund. Janie's classes will be refunded.

Winnie will be having 4:30 Puppy STARS and will reach out to the conformation class at 7:45pm if the AC can be fixed by then. If you have questions, you can contact Winnie by phone (she'll be teaching from 4:30-5:30pm but you can send a text)

Junior Scholarship winner and 2023 JOAWC team member Ainsley Cheshire is organizing a Junior agility hangout at Y2K9s on Sunday, July 21!

This is open to all junior agility handlers 18 and under. For more information, contact Ainsley (email on the flyer). Open to all levels of agility but some degree of formal training required.

Looking for a fun summer class to sign up for? Registration is now open for four Pop-Up classes taught by Sally. All are offered on Thursdays at 12:30-1:30 in Area B.

June 27: Tricks! In this one off tricks class we will work on dig/scratch, bow, unroll a mat (and maybe do some yoga on it!), monkey/pray. You’ll leave with the tools to polish these tricks at home.

June 11: Proof those contacts: You have the position, let’s work on how to maintain it for your agility runs!

July 18: Refresh your Recall: Recall is one of the most important behaviors that you can teach your dog. This pop-up class will work on dusting off your recall, and improving it for the future. Don’t have a recall? Let’s start there!

July 25: Intro to Freestyle: Always been curious about Musical Canine Freestyle? This one hour pop-up class will give you a bit of background on the sport and send you home with a couple of freestyle moves to work on. Dancing ability not required!!
