Last week our Chapter Preseident, Samantha, and Chapter Treasurer, Cassidy, attended the annual AAPP Conference in Orlando, FL. This was a great opportunity to network, learn more about Psychiatric Pharmacy, and get an insight into the changes in the field over the last few and upcoming years.

Academia: Pharmacists play a variety of roles in academia: as administrators (e.g., provosts, deans, dept chairs, associate deans, etc.), educators, clinical practitioners, and researchers. Often a faculty member plays more than one role, depending on their track (e.g., non-tenure track faculty primarily provide patient care and hands-on teaching to APPE students, whereas tenure-track faculty primarily conduct research and teach classes) and department (e.g., faculty in pharmaceutical sciences teach basic science courses and conduct bench research, whereas faculty in pharmacy practice department teach therapeutics courses and conduct clinical or health outcomes research).

Student Opportunities at AAPP 2023 Student opportunities are available only for in-person attendees in Atlanta, Georgia.
Pharmacists practice forensic pharmacy when they care for psychiatric patients with forensic issues. The practice settings often include county jails, or state/federal prisons/hospitals or correctional facilities, where pharmacists care for inpatients and outpatients involved in the justice system by reviewing their medication records, making objective/subjective assessments with rating scales and patient interviews, initiating/modifying medication doses, and providing medications-related patient education. Forensic psychiatric pharmacists also help with formulary or non-formulary medications usage, drug information requests, and formal consultations requests for treating complex patients.

25 student registration grants for AAPP 2023 are available! You will need to submit your CV, a letter of recommendation, and a personal essay. Start preparing these items now to get ahead of the January 11, 2023 deadline.
2023 Student Grant Applications Thanks to the generous support of the AAPP Foundation, AAPP Past Presidents’ Destiny Fund, and AAPP members, up to 25 pharmacy students will receive a $225 registration grant for a full, in-person student registration to the Annual Meeting in Atlanta, Georgia.
