Sawdust & Sass Designs
Hand painted wooden signs all created with love in Alabama! Hey all and welcome to Sawdust & Sass Designs! We are so happy to have you here.
I'm Lindsey, wife, mama and creator of all the goodies you see. Everything from start to finish is done by my own two hands and I am very proud of this little shop I've built! Creating has been a love of mine for quite some time but my journey really began a few years ago with refinishing furniture. In between projects I started trying out sign making. That quickly became a passion and with the su
So I'm obsessed with this one ๐ The most adorable distressed farmhouse door hanger ever. I absolutely love Highland cows and have been wanting to paint one for awhile. Thought it would make the cutest darn door hanger and I was right! She's all hand painted so she's not totally perfect but I'm more than happy with the end result. I think the headband is my favorite part! Added lots of distressing to give it that extra farmhouse look. The best part? It's up for grabs! Somebody please claim this because I have too many hangers already ๐ I will ship as well!
HELLO ๐
It was recently brought to my attention that people have been trying to reach me for orders but I have not logged in or given any updates in several months. I'm sorry for leaving you all hanging!
Here's some updates:
We got settled into our new place at Drum at the beginning of the year. Due to the lack of housing here for the time we needed we had to get an apartment which is fine however it meant having to keep my shop closed (for the most part). We do have a garage but no electricity in it to run my tools. I have considered running them inside the apartment but am also not trying to get kicked out ๐ This very much bums me out as I see several needing duty station add on pieces. I've been trying to figure out a solution and I've got you guys covered!
If you are needing a duty station sign/add on piece I have outsourced the wood cutting part and then I will do all the rest here (staining, painting). The fellow woodworker helping out is my dad in Maine who will prepare the pieces and bring them to me when he visits in a few weeks. If you are going to order please note again this will be a few weeks before I get the pieces to work on.
Other than that the only other thing I am able to take orders for on a consistent basis is wooden door hangers. Those I can buy pre cut and can hand sand at home. I recently made this one for our front door and think it's just the cutest thing ๐ป I can pretty much paint any idea you've got though!
Again I am not able to take orders on anything that needs to be cut at this time unless it is duty station related.
Hello!!! ๐โโ๏ธ
It has been so long since I've posted ๐ฌ Without going in to too much detail our move got turned upside down and I am currently in Maine with family until we meet my husband up at Drum. I finished a ton of custom orders before I closed shop that I never got to share so here are some of the door hangers that I absolutely loved making and think came out so good!
Also while I wasn't looking I surpassed 1,000 likes on this page!! ๐๐ Thank you all for supporting me even during my time of absence! I think this definitely calls for a giveaway! I don't have all my tools and materials with me here in Maine but I can still create a special piece. My question is what style sign would you all like to see in a giveaway? A door hanger? Something holiday related? A funny bathroom sign? Let me know below!
Things have been a bit hectic lately so I haven't had a chance to share any recent work but I couldn't let this one go without mentioning. I've painted (yes this beauty is all paint) several duty station signs in the past few weeks but this one takes the cake for my most challenging as well as unique. The customer asked for the state flags to be painted inside each state instead of having it a solid color. A couple of the flags were a lot more intricate than I could do so I simplified them all while still trying to keep the original design in mind. Also on the Benning piece I carved out the saying she wanted inside of the state which is a bit hard to see from far away (I attached a close up pic of that one too). I couldn't be happier with the way it came out an am dang proud of it!
My shop is still closed of course but this is a great example of not being afraid to ask for something outside of the box in the future. I am willing to give any design a try!
As y'all know by now humor signs are my jam especially bathroom ones. I've painted several different designs but this custom is hands down my new favorite. I loved how it came out so much I made an extra for myself and cut another for one of you! I will not be going on any more wood runs as I am closing so this is your only chance to snag it!

Please read this post in its entirety
First big exciting news is that our family will be heading to Fort Drum in November! At the same time we received this news we also got word that the owners of the house we've been living in for 3 years are wanting to sell. I am not all that surprised as the market is so hot right now but it is definitely bad timing. We are left now needing to get into a new place just until November. It doesn't make sense to us to move into another big house for such a short period of time so we have decided to go with a small apartment. With that being said I will be losing all of my garage workspace so there will be no way to build signs ๐ญ
SO here is the deal. THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE LAST WEEK I will be taking orders of any kind (doesn't just have to be duty station). Please note all orders placed this week will have a pick up date of JUNE 1ST. I of course will try to get things done sooner but with getting things prepared to move and taking as many customs as I can I want to make sure I'm still putting out quality pieces and not rushing. AGAIN ALL ORDERS FROM THIS WEEK WILL HAVE A JUNE 1ST PICK UP (or before if I am able).
My shop will be completely closed on June 1st until the end of the year when we are settled into New York.
Happy Sunday and Happy Mother's Day! I hope everyone is having a great weekend! Yesterday was such a hectic day I never posted on here from Bluebelle Home Decor and Gifts Spring Market ๐ Although I wasn't able to get everything finished in time to bring that I had planned it was still an awesome day!! It was so nice meeting you all and reconnecting with past customers! I also want to give a big shout out to Treasure Avery Moment, Car Candies LLC and Mae + david for all their help. I would have never made it to the event without them!
I will be signing offline for the day to get outside with my daughter but keep an eye out for tomorrow's post about orders, shop closure and some ready to ship items left over from yesterday!
Some recent duty station orders in a few different designs and styles! I'm like Burger King over here, you can absolutely have these your way๐ I love to customize to each person's needs to make your pieces extra special!
โช๏ธHeads up and a little updateโช๏ธ I will not be taking any orders for these again until the end of May (unless you are already in my messages). I have decided to be an outdoor vendor at Bluebelle Home Decor and Gifts Spring Market on May 8th and want to make sure I have enough time to create lots of amazing items for it!
I dont think I could love this new wooden door round any more than I do! The color combo ๐ The cow ๐ Just adorable! Round is stained in classic gray with the bottom painted in my favorite sage chalk paint. Pictures really don't do this beautiful color justice. To make it even better personalize with your last name on the ear tag!
I have one 16" up for grabs!
$40 + shipping if you are not local
I love helping to decorate others porches but usually neglect my own ๐ Well, I decided to change that and wanted to try something a little different. I added a planter box to my typical 5 foot porch sign and I love how it turned out! I plan to plant some bright flowers in there this summer but put some fake succulents in for now! The best part is this can stay up all year just simply change out what's planted to match the season. I can picture a beautiful mum in there this fall or some tiny pumpkins!
Coming at you this sunny Monday morning with a little Luke Combs and another faux framed beauty! I love this color combo of the gray stain and sage paint. Pairs just perfectly together!
Sign measures approx 25.5" x 9" and is very light weight
$34 and ready for pick up!
Now that I have limited the amount of custom orders I'm taking, it has given me time to create things for my own home and try new designs.
I give you the faux frame! If you look quickly the sign appears to be framed out right? It's not! I will admit that framing signs isn't always my favorite part. It can be very time consuming and depending how large the sign is the extra wood can make it even heavier, but I do like the finished look it gives. This style is a win win for me! You just stain the sign then box out where you want to paint your wording. It gives it that finished look and the sign is nice and light!
If you enjoy funny/sarcastic signs this would be perfect for your entryway or even your front door ๐คฃ
Sign is 12" x 9", $24 and ready for pick up!
Y'alllll I have been slacking big time on product photos and then when I do remember it's on the stormiest of days and the lightning stinks ๐คฆโโ๏ธ Bad quality photos can take away from the beauty of the stain but I wanted to share anyway! This duty station set was done in jacobean and I love that the roots sign was added. It is one of my favs and pairs well with military life!
Also I have had an influx of questions regarding how my items are made. All my signs are painted, never vinyl ๐

Custom bathroom sign trio ๐ฉ This set was done in off white with black painted lettering and walnut stain. Just perfect ๐
I feel bad posting custom work when I am no longer taking these orders but I still really enjoy posting my work and I hope you all still enjoy seeing it! I do still have a garage of wood and am making things in my free time so maybe if certain signs get a lot of attention I will remake and auction on here? Let me know what y'all think!
Framed states are part of my permanent duty station collection that I will continue to take orders for and this whole set is just perfection! Love the family number house addition as well!
States are 7" x 7", framed in the stain of choice and hand painted to whatever customizations you wish!
Our Story
Hey all and welcome to Sawdust & Sass Designs! I am so happy to have you here.
I'm Lindsey, wife, mama and creator of all the goodies you see. I am a Maine girl but have lived all around the country with my husband who is in the military. The Army is what sparked my maker journey. His job kept him from us often and sign making became a way to keep me busy during those times. It started as a hobby but after some encouragement from family and friends I opened up shop in 2017. I am a one woman show here creating all signs from start to finish with my own two hands. I am incredibly proud of this little shop and I appreciate your support so much!
