Kipuka Cottage
Vacation cottage near Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
Time to say good-bye to our sweet Kipuka. And to hope her new owners become worthy of her. Timeless memories of our rainforest nest, the dear friends who've gathered with us there over the years; our hearts warm, too, with all the guests from around the world who fell in love with our cottage during the last 11 years when our former home was a vacation cottage welcoming them, and sometimes, us too on our final visits. Aloha 'oe, sweet Kipuka.
Of course Diana, our caretaker (and photographer) extraordinaire, appreciates the tips some guests leave as thanks for all she does to clean and prep the cottage. So it’s no surprise that she said about a recent guest who left the cottage quite tidy, “I wish I could leave HIM a tip!”
With his mysterious little smile, our guardian Jasper is always ready to welcome guests onto the lanai and into the cottage. (Mahalo to our caretaker Diana for her fine photo.) www.kipukacottage.com
Volcano village is so proud of our hula halau (hula group) invited this year for the first time to dance at the world's most prestigious hula competition. I first met some of these powerful young women when they were children, and now am moved to tears to see them as the amazing women and dancers they've become. Meet them yourself in this moving short video. https://www.merriemonarch.com/ #

Upstairs, downstairs Kipuka Cottage style. Mahalo to our amazing caretaker Diana for the beautiful photo (another of her talents).
We so love the comments our guests leave in our guestbook. This one from last week is one of the greatest to be sure, especially that last line:
"This cottage sits deep in the heart of a Jurassic jungle, rich and vibrant with color and life. You feel like you’re in a time warp, but you also feel cozy and safe. We loved the minidisc player and music selection (Radiohead, Tom Waits, Erica Badu, and more). Our favorite part was waking to a heard of triceratops grazing in the wet foliage."
We’re ecstatic to finally be welcoming guests to our Kipuka Cottage again after almost a year. Our very first guests last week left our Housekeeper Extraordinaire Diana a sweet tip. Well deserved, Diana! You worked your okole off to get the cottage in tiptop shape. Mahalo nui loa!
