Now into the final week of my research for the current book project. A few more days of finding out where my characters are going to live - and die.

Writing the latest Master of War took some time. I think I might need a new ribbon.

So many fascinating artifacts in the Malaga Museum from archeological digs in and around the city. While researching the Moors during my recent visit I came across this wonderful 6th century Greek helmet. It's not from the period I usually write about (despite Ancient Greek&Roman History being my #1 subject at school) but I hope you will find it as fascinating as I did. I know many of you will know more about this period. The helmet would have been a status symbol worn by a high-ranking officer, decorated with snakes and eagles to make him stand out on the battlefield.

A pleasure to have "Resurrection" included in the Best summer reads by Financial Times reviewer Adam LeBor - who's also a top notch man himself when it comes to crime thrillers. I join some excellent company.

A ten day research trip almost at an end. Fascinating history that touches on elements of the last Master of War novel - Shadow of the Hawk and the Moors in Spain. What a splendid way to end the evening in Malaga. Sitting in the Jardines Manuel Atencia Garcia watching hundreds of swifts in flight against the backdrop of the 11c Alcazaba.
A brief research trip to Amsterdam. The East Indiaman ship is a bit later time-wise than I want for my new project but offered a great insight to life below decks. Sadly, they wouldn't let me climb up to the top mast.
I should have mentioned this yesterday but I forgot it was Friday. Caught up in new project, so time warps occur. An hour spent with two lovely authors.
🎙️Today we talk to David Gilman, who you probably know as one of the best historical novelists around. He also wrote TV's Frost, was a Para, and a firefighter, and we had a brilliant chat with him. Enjoy the Master of War series? Listen to this then! https://spotifyanchor-web.app.link/e/CpExQcrPazb

Pre Covid - pre beard - pre new laptop. Writing in Italy. I'm considering a new standalone novel set in early 17thC Italy. More research needed so looking for next location this year. But where exactly? Verona, Venice or Florence? It's going to be a busy year.
