Invicta Wind Orchestra

Invicta Wind Orchestra

A wind orchestra formed in 1989, IWO meets several times a year for a Saturday rehearsal and concert.

We play challenging repertoire for wind band, performing at a high standard. Invicta Wind Orchestra was founded in 1989 by Jeremy Cooper, giving its first concert in Folkestone in September that year. The group meets several times each year for a day of rehearsals followed by a formal evening concert. We aim to play adventurous music for wind band and members come from all over the South East.

from Peta Andrews

I am sending this on behalf of Malcolm Binney and the Sherborne School of Music - link should be attached. I gather that they are desperately in need of trumpets and French horns for the upcoming courses in July and wondered whether I could prevail upon you to forward this to any players (esp horns and trumpets or indeed anyone!) who may be interested in attending these excellent courses, to be held at Sherborne School - (clearly respecting all forms of data protection if email forwarded to multiple people.)

I know that it will be July and so constraints such as work, summer holidays, cruises etc etc are already booked but I said that I would TRY to obtain some more of these excellent instruments, hence the email!

If you would like to support the Old Schoolhouse Larder you can make a regular donation by setting up a Standing Order so that basic non-perishable foodstuffs can be purchased to stock the shelves in the Larder at EC30 (The Coffee Shop at EC30) Recreation Ground Road, Tenterden.

All donations and any regular Standing Order commitment you can make (even £2 a month), no matter how small makes a REAL difference to our ability to keep the larder stocked.

You can download the Standing Order form here:https://www.mytenterden.co.uk/upload/di/ot/2/dilisting-1902-listingdoc1.pdf The form also contains the The Old School House Larder bank details which will enable you to make a one-off donation online.

Wessex Band Summer School 26/03/2024

We've received the following info for a recommended course:-

Dear musician,
We are really excited to be hosting the 53rd Wessex Band Summer School from Monday 29th – Saturday 3rd August 2024 at Sturminster Newton High School, Dorset.
Our course has three bands, a training band for players up to approximately grade 4 standard, a Wind Band and a Brass Band, both for players of grade 4 upwards. The course welcomes players of all ages and abilities and we pride ourselves on our friendly, supportive and inclusive values. The course welcomes players from all over the country every year.
The Musical Director for the course is Michael Fowles. Mike is well known for his outstanding work with a wide range of musical ensembles, having worked extensively with Brass and Wind Bands, Youth ensembles and bands of all abilities, being able to create a supportive and musically challenging atmosphere in rehearsals. Mike is currently the Musical Director of The Foden’s Brass Band.
Mike has assembled a fantastic team of conductors and tutors around him, who will offer all players on the course a wonderful musical and social experience, and we know you will be back for more!
Many players and their families camp on the attached campsite on the school field, where the campsite committee provide a great week of social activities that everyone (both campers and non-campers) can be involved in.
We would love to see you at the course. Why not bring some friends and make a real occasion of it?
