Follow Time-to-Run training by the Ed. With as little training as possible we try to achieve as much as we can.
A normal training week at the moment includes 3 quality session, 2 recovery runs and 2 rest days.
Today was my turn to volunteer ๐คฉ I am super grateful for this weekly event, and therefore I was very happy to do the volunteering and handing out of the finish tokens. The parkrun would not be possible without the volunteers. Every Saturday a group of volunteers make sure everything is in place for 9:30 start and everything runs smoothly ๐ This 5km event is free for all ages and abilities. You just need to register www.parkrun.fi to get your time recorded!
After playing 5 badminton matches over the weekend my body needed some recovering ๐ My feet were super sore and the body was aching all over. I went swimming on Monday, did a light session in the gym on Tuesday, rested on Wednesday and today finally did some running ๐โ๏ธ Nice and easy 10 km which was actually 11 km as I forgot to switch the watch on after a small break. Really annoying when it happens ๐ I was able to do my run during daylight which was nice. Soon after 3 pm itโs already dark ..
Something else this weekend ๐คฉ
It has been a good week of training. Tuesdayโs run felt tough but otherwise the week has all gone smoothly. I am especially happy with how my swimming is coming along. On Sunday I did the longest ever swim, 1000 metres altogether ๐คฉ I still pause at each end of the 25 metre pool to catch my breath but I can feel it is getting easier. I love the feeling I have in the body after swimming (and the long sauna โบ๏ธ) .. no after training aches and pains ๐
Training badminton once a week has slotted in quite nicely with the running. I started playing badminton 7 weeks ago after a 12 yr break. My feet have been sore and of course the badminton muscles (glutes and quads) have been tender some days after training but surprisingly nothing too catastrophic that would have intervened with the running training๐๐ป๐
Next weekend I will play a badminton tournament, so letโs see what the training will be like this coming week ๐
I am really enjoying my training at the moment ๐
It was meant to be an hour run but it fell a bit short - I like the distance we covered though โบ๏ธ It has been a long while since we did an aerobic training session like this as a group with the coach in the car along the route making sure everyone is feeling okay. The plan was to go out at 5:30 pace and return quicker with the last 3 km at 4:30 pace. The session was aimed at Kari who is doing his final preparations for the Valencia marathon in 2,5 weeks time.
There sure is power in training in a group. Without the others I wouldnโt have been running back at that pace as I was feeling rather heavy ๐ It was lovely to see my training mates all feeling cheerful and light on their feet and to hear Kariโs marathon training has been going nicely as planned๐๐ป
We love the parkrun โค๏ธ Most of our Saturdays start with this 5 km event that is free for everyone. The run is timed and it is easy to compare your times within your own age gategory.
Our home parkrun is in Espoo, the , but a week ago we had the chance to visit the . My goal in Amsterdam was to set a new age category record, which we had checked shouldnโt be impossible. I had a very good run and was the first female and 8th overall with 19:58 which was the new record for the W45-49 category .. and also my best 5km time in 8 years! This we celebrated with a lovely breakfast in the just around the corner from the parkrun ๐
These are the current training conditions - cold and dark. This is my Wednesday group that I have had the privilege to coach for over a year. This is now the short season after track training and before moving indoors. We use the lit paths to get few hill sessions done before we go to the indoor track for interval training. This group is the most positive group I have ever coached (and the only group I have coached โบ๏ธ). They train hard but the vibe is always positive. The after vibes are always the best when everyone is happy after completing the training session โบ๏ธ Gotta love the Kirkkonummi skyline by night ๐คฉ๐
My training has been literally all over the place ๐ First in Tartu and then in Bรฅstad. Both places had an amazing track ๐๐ป๐คฉ In Bรฅstad I just did a short session on the track, otherwise it was farlek and easy runs along the coastal path. Training is never as intensive while we work and travel but we try to fit in what ever we can.
The first thing to check is if the place has a track ๐ Nice little session with 200, 300 and 400 metres in Tartu Stadium. Training is coming along nicely towards the Finnish Masters Champs in August ๐
Thank you and the volunteers for organising the event ๐ There is no better way to start the weekend ๐คฉ๐๐ผโโ๏ธ This 5 km event is free for everyone - you just need to register once to get your barcode. You can then follow your results and see how you compare with other runners in your own age group.
Puolarmaari Parkrun course isnโt the easiest as it has got quite a few climbs but definitely a lovely route in protected forest on dirt paths ๐๐ป๐
The best part is the coffee and โpullaโ afterwards ๐
Soul healing session in the woods ๐ Well, only after the 1st kilometre which was all uphill ๐ Got an opportunity to change into my running gear before heading to Stockholm. I missed the first parkrun in Puolarmaari, so I did my own 5 km run ๐
I just had the most invigorating run last night. Such beautiful surroundings and lovely evening ๐๐ฅฐ Well, not sure if I can call it a run .. I stopped about 20 times to take photos ๐
We felt it was time for a little break. We have been training well but few of us have come down with little sniffles and those of us who attempted a 5 km time-trial on the track on Thursday did not do as well as we would have liked, so we thought a little break would boost the recovery from all the training and help to get rid of all the sniffles and any other aches and pains anyone may have.
For me this little break coinsided well with a short work related trip to Stockholm. No stress of fitting in a training run while travelling ๐
We aim to be back on track (literally) on Tuesday โบ๏ธ
