Super stoked to bring my band “The Elusive Tigers” out of their cages, yes they need to feed, for an evening of psychedelic indie-rock/alt country in its purest form. Join us in the name of peace, love, and rock n roll and indulge in some amazing food and drink (I’m being asked by many if the Lasagna is back on the menu?;)) at one of the high deserts coolest new music venue/restaurants we hit at 7:30pm sharp and will be performing songs off my new album “The Bright Lights Fade Away”. The evening is presented by and my buddy will be running sound (which means it’s going to sound amazing) so come hang! We kick things off and then two of LA’s hottest rock n roll acts will round out the night. Tickets are just $10. Do it. Wishing you all a safe and peaceful wknd. I’ll be back to spam your feeds again on Monday;) ✌️😎🌵
Excited to share with you my first ever original holiday/Christmas song in two weeks on November 16th called “It’s Christmas Time Again”! A friend challenged me to try and write an og holiday song and so, literally on Xmas day last year, I wrote this tune. It’s upbeat and festive and I hope it brings you and yours a smile and some peace during this upcoming holiday season. More to come, and yes that’s me with my first guitar I got for Xmas circa 77 I think? 😉🎄

“Revolver”
“I Don’t Know What to Believe In”
Yeah God is dead
Never alive
It’s in your head.
Another lie
You’ll climb a mountain
But you gotta climb
And when you get there
They’ll be no time
I don’t know, I don’t know
What to believe in
I don’t know, I don’t know
What to believe in
Another sky
Another mile
Put on your make up
And crack a smile
We’ll gather forces
Into the wind
No time to read or write
No time to win
I don’t know, I don’t know
What to believe in
I don’t know, I don’t know
What to believe in
Yeah you might believe in Buddha
Maybe Thich Nhat Hanh
Maybe Hari Krishna
Or maybe Peter Pan
Yeah you might go vegan
Maybe gluten-free
But one day you’ll be eating meat again just like me
I heard you went to Michigan
To play that open mic
Then you cut out early
And went for a hike.
Drove around the country
Year after year
Just looking out the window
For you to appear
I don’t know, I don’t know
What to believe in
I don’t know, I don’t know
What to believe In
I don’t know what to believe in.
As I watched the ants move around my meditation cushion during my sunrise session this morning; I couldn’t help but notice their efficiency, mutual respect, and how they work together. Despite being mundane and busy work, I got a keen sense they were at peace. Now, if only humans could be that way.
My writing has often revolved around the human condition or the struggle we have with each other, mainly ourselves. In lieu of recent events, I realized I had forgotten what was most important. In my last post, I spoke about my passion bla bla..BUT truly, I forgot about my “purpose” of trying to help people (and myself) not blow each other up. Passions are ultimately self-serving, and we need to focus on having a purpose. Mine has been promoting peace, wellness, non-violence, and sobriety for as long as I can remember. It’s in every song, painting and poem.
When we first moved out to the middle of the high desert during the pandemic, I thought of creating a sanctuary. A place to build and foster a community of wellness, self-care, music, art, & good food. A place where we try and figure it all out.
But as in life, sometimes we get busy and forget about our purpose. We forget about the bigger picture and what is truly important. To the many of you who came out to the ranch this past weekend for the Art Tours you inspired me, and reminded me of our opportunity to build something special at this unique property. I feel like I’ve been reborn in a way.
The world desperately needs leaders, peacemakers, educators, musicians, & artists to inspire peace and community building, just like the ants do. We do not need more achievers, bad-asses, ballers, moguls and influencers (unless it’s the good kind;)). If you share a similar vision, I want to hear from you below. Be a part of this movement! Please join us and subscribe to the “Byrdnest” via my website to learn about new events coming soon here at the ranch.
“one love” - BB
Not sure if it’s the changing of the season this year that has hit me like a truck but man, I’m not sure what’s up. Sure it’s been an incredibly busy year of travel and work, so there’s that. Yes, also getting older, but that normal feeling of spiked adrenaline that usually comes w/lower temps, apples, pumpkin spice everything, extra layers, and more guyliner finds me writing to you today from the couch just completely exhausted. So unlike me. I’m usually a machine. Probs to my detriment, but I’m always trying to win the day and move the needle but today… nope, it’s time to slow’r down. Is it me or is all this constant advice and self help content all over social media too much? Despite most of it being great advice.
Maybe I’ve been working out too much, maybe I caught a weird unidentified body cold. Idk wtf it is. Can anyone else relate? I really don’t know nor have the time to research it but the key words here seem to be REST and SLOW DOWN Something I’m not great at. It’s hard trying to seize the day - every. single. day.. ya know?
Anyway … on to more positive things… I’m very excited to be a part of this years again out here in the high desert. My home/studio in Landers, CA, will be open all day 10am-5pm both this Sat and Sun October 7th & 8th. I am stoked to show you some new paintings and have some old favs on display this year. Paintings truly need to be seen in person to fully experience them. Each part of the house will have different themes: bedrooms (black n whites), garage studio - more Jackson Pollack-y stuff, main house will feature my more Rothko-y stuff, and under the carport will have my ongoing “Interstellar” and “Shimmer” series on display.
Oh yeah, I'll be performing a short set of tunes in my studio at noon, 2, and 4pm on both days of the art tours.
So come on by! Roxy and I are looking forward to seeing you at the ranch this wknd for the
(DM for address)
One love, and don’t forget to rest up! 😉
The nights have been a dream as of late in the desert. No wind. Which is so rare. Especially atop this hill. The moon so bright you could take a hike at midnight. (Perhaps a song or poem in there) I’ve been making fires and doing my little stories posts. Thanks for checking those out. I’ve been reminded about the beauty and fragility of life and how fleeting it can be as of late.
A colleague/friend of mine whom I was just in an email thread with earlier in the week, mysteriously died of a stroke yesterday. Pretty jolting to say the least. It really made me think about how important it is to do what makes you happiest. But really do it. Like a LOT. For me that’s playing and performing music and making art. I’m so very grateful and lucky to have such great musicians and a support team behind my work and allow me the opportunities to do what I do.
That said, I hope you can save the date for Friday, October 20, as it’s my official “vinyl release show“ The Hotel Cafe for my latest full-length record, “The Bright Lights Fade Away”. We have a limited pressing and already made a good dent in it (thank you) so come out and grab one while they’re here. It’s easily my best work to date, and it’s probably my last “record” that I make. We'll see. I have a massive amount of songs in the oven so to speak, like a tsunami of the soul, and the only way is to drop them all as singles going forward. So grab the “relic” whilst ya can. Tickets are the cost of a cocktail, $10 bucks, and I have some amazing talent joining me that night such as Gary Jules, Casey Shea of Grand Canyon Jesika von Rabbit sitting in w/me, Nic Harcourt is hosting the night and one of the finest backing bands an indie-rock/alt country singer-songwriter could ask for and my favorite sound guy running sound. Gonna be a fun night and I hope you can make it out ❤️
