The Retinal Circus
Acid fried psych prog! Songs ebb with medieval cadence and grandeur with lashings of wry commentary. So far it has been a success."
It would be a great disservice to say multi instrumentalist Craigus Barry is the only "consistent" thing about Retinal Circus through it's shifting line up of characters and players π (though he does arrange and compose the majority of the prolific output). Solo & with cohorts such as Maya Brown Wolf, Olly Pilsworth, Cain Fox, Ed Steelefox etc they have supported acts as various as Knifeworld, Dam
The night Cain went so all out at the end of Quiver's customary extra simian finale He broke a bass string. Pow π€π₯
Then He just decided to do a song that needs it to end the set regardless. Nice swan, sharp beak!

Thanks to Kate, Steve and Tygre for the sound and due diligence.
Ta to Dark Horse for hosting us so last minute
It was chaotic but it was certainly something else an eclectic fusiionquite unlike anything I've experienced since my days involved the cabaret Llama Lounge and DIY Punk gigs. "Mare by day, dream by night" as Cain said.
Ya know.. someone went home with a fresh kilo of candy body guts and sweetie brains for slouching like a zombie and singing Ths Gonk and variations.. so.. There's that!
(that alone was definitely a first!! We can confidently boast as being the only psych rock band around here playing the Gonk.. I think)
Congratulations to Daz Blocksidge our occasional photographer (and old mate of mine,) for having muliuple photos in Worcester Music Festival photography competition.
Daz is a talented all round artist, in addition to his photos that ebb with strobing energy, he is a skilled surrealist painter of elequent sonambulent visions tore from the swirling epicentre of the lucid needle of a sleepy iris.
Daz scored first place with his snap of Exit Child's Joanna and also... who's that? Our very own Keith Low Red Moon hitting the skins at spin the black circle on fine form during the festy when we did our fuzz trio set! (see post elsewhere,).
We just had a practice today, first since the unfortunate circumstances following the music fest and Olly (Keith,) was a goddamn monster on that kit! Stoked for Retinal Circus Presents Daymare NOT on Lifford Lane
@ DARK HORSE Sunday 29th
Be there!

I had such a great time playing a headline show on my own again last night with less than a week to prapare for it too. Can be tempting to overthink everything but at the end of the day the songs and the music are the most important things in such circumstances.
For the organiser it was a double booking headache with the dadaist punkarama going on upstairs that was so loud it comically shorted the side lights downstairs.
Downstairs - lovely balmy evening for a surrealist Enchanted (spoken word And More) cabaret with all it's glow worm bottles, flowers, and fairies, Dark Horse looked closer to the kitchen garden cafe for just that one night. Hah
Bloody wonderful that. Sound guy Tigre did his best to battle against the gremlins (helped him out a few times here and there) and man I'll never forget the site of seeing a punk with his face drenched in blood like Andrew WK walk downstairs from the anarcho punk evening up there during a contemplative poem π¬
Crazy stuff from M**h Club 7 (lol)
Thanks Mia π

Come along, watch, gawk, celebrate my (not,) birthday days off the trails of the birthday. Check comments for words that ΕΎΕ±ckoberk censors for no apparent reason and more details. Be there or be a pineapple Fox, if that's your thing.

*No Retinal Circus set is the same these days. So expect the unexpected*
Little photodump of the past three outings.
Two of which featured the incompatible coconut clopping loon and tub thumper extroidinare, Olly "Oscillator" Pilsworth
First we have 27th May At Dark Horse which featured Maya Brown Wolf* on lead fiddle as a trio supporting Low Red Moon and sharing the bill with the mighty Black Bombers. Next we premiered our fuzzier proggier trio with Cain Fox* on boom stick and Zoia Empress synth (*I'm leaning towards more animal surnames so be sure to include that on future CVs, we have had a Steelefox in the past tbf..). We three brothers of din did make a right old sweat filled racket supporting the incredible Sloth Metropolis and the hard to tag incomparable Tabernacle at Centrala. I had a little after party chill with a Sloth sleepover at my gaff after and much merriment was had with the stupendous array of instruments cluttering my abode.
Not to be too shabby, or rest on our laurels and hardies, next Stinky Foxy and I did a concise Zoia, lute and dual acoustic guitar set at MOONSHINE MALARKEY @ KOWALSKI'S ACOUSTIC CLUB.. To be fair Retinal Circus started as a one man acoustic thing so this was going back to roots a little.. Moonshine Malarkey were superb and cannot wait for us Circus types to flutter down to Bristol and join them for a shindig or five..
A lot of folk have been asking about merch, well we should have some more soon. I feel kinda bad saying we don't have any but we've sold the bloody lot. So what can you do?
We'll keep you posted. There is also a new EP of new stuff brewing in the collective mind's eye.
At present there's some possible shows on the horizon but we're definitely on the main stage Sunday 6th August at Unorthodox Paradox 2023 and myself I am wetting my keks with anticipation of seeing the mighty a.P.A.t.T. Again and worshiping at their alter of wonky avant pop goodness. One of the few bands that simultaneously bring cathartic joy, make my mind melt and excite my muses.
π All in all we feel loved, thank you π

Boooom!
Next show is The Retinal Circus trio (mk 1.5) with the return of Maya Brown on fiddle and regular tub thumper Keith Low Red Moon on skins. Gonna polish off some fast instrumentals for this one too. Maybe sort out the magical Bailey Telecaster π€
Apart from that low red moon rising in the ear drums again, I'm looking forward to seeing Mr Twist in action hitting his vintage kit in Black Bombers!
