Recently, I heard it said that your side business should be supporting the life you have and want to build….not taking over your life.
When I started my business doing social media/content creation, I was at the end of our year of travel—when my life (and workload) looked extremely different. Even with traveling, there was a lot of extra time I just wasn’t accustomed to having. So I dove into building an account that followed our travels. I was able to work on my photography skills and also got a glimpse into the weird world of travel microinfluencers. I also picked up an independent contractor position running the social media for a luxury cruise line in the Galapagos, which was my first experience doing social media for anyone else. A few months in and I was questioning why I couldn’t just be working for myself doing the same thing. And thus, my business was born.
At the start of 2022, the combination of my full-time and side job were taking over my life. Even as I was scaling my business and bringing on additional help, just one 🚩 client can instantly take back all the time you thought you were getting back and then pile on more stress. Hustle-culture is a place I’ve fought to stay out of, but I saw myself headed down that familiar old path. So with the departure of our full-time sitter of 2 years this month—who wouldn’t have been a possibility without my secondary income (so forever grateful for that)—I’ve decided to press pause on my business for the time being. Which is really difficult for my enneagram 3 self to do.
I will be keeping on one long-term client but focusing the rest of my spare creative energies on things that are just for me. Things I’ve not had the time for. Like the drone that has been sitting in its box for two years (embarrassing), all of the classes/refreshers I’ve wanted to take in graphic design and the art supplies that have been gathering dust.
I’m proud of the work I’ve done these past 3 years and that I proven to myself that I could build something great from scratch. I’ve learned invaluable lessons and been able to connect with amazing people—but I’m very much looking forward to getting some time back for myself. ❤️
Do you make the BEST TikToks/Reels? (And also have some solid iPhoneography skills when it comes to shooting still social content?)
We're going to need to chat!
I'm looking to add a 1099 position (just 3-5 hours per month) to the CEC team. Must live within a reasonable distance to either Greer or Spartanburg and have samples of work to share. The client the work would be for is in the dessert industry, so creating the content is always fun! Please email me directly at [email protected] if interested!

New info from Instagram on hashtag placement! 🚨
“We’re no longer just a square photo-sharing app…..now we’re focused on four key areas: Creators, Video, Shopping and Messaging.”
This isn’t a new revelation.
It’s what the head of Instagram announced back in June (which kind of shook the OG Instagram world). 🤯 But if you’re a business/creator account that still hasn’t started incorporating video into your content, I would love to know the WHY behind it. Lack of time? Skill? Don’t want to put your face in front of the camera (you’re not alone)!
I want to share some tips/tricks I’ve picked up this year to help, so drop your “why” below! ⬇️
We make it pretty and take the guesswork out of writing captions and hashtag strategy. So you don’t have to. 👩🏻💻
Creating content for a local vacation rental has been a goal since day 1 of starting my own company--and next month it's happening!
We've already had so much fun creating the September content for (go check it out on IG!)--weaving this adorable house in with some local Greenville lifestyle + events.
Outsourcing your content calendar is also a much more budget-friendly option to full social media management--we take all the work out of coming up with creative ideas and putting together a cohesive look to provide you with a "plug-and-play" calendar for your next 30 days of social content.
Officially waitlisted until 2022!
(Which sounds so far away but really…it’s only 145 days. 😥)
We have some changes to our services—we will not be taking on any new full management clients. But this leaves us open to do more of what we love— content calendars, influencer outreach, content shoots, training and consulting! ❤️ We’ll also be scheduling in some much-missed breathing room so that we have more time to share tips/tricks here, learn new skills, stay on top of all the trends/changes social media has planned for us in 2022 and most importantly….leave time to be inspired!
Would love to get you on our list for next year! 💌
Hi! 👋 I’m Courtney and I wear a LOT of hats. (Figuratively speaking.)
When people ask me “what I do” I typically can see the overwhelm on their faces. Because it IS a lot. Four years ago I started The Local Greenville as a much-needed creative outlet. I was in a severely non-creative job that I then felt I was supposed to be in...it was next in line on the career path so that meant it had to be the next logical step, right?
Flash forward to leaving that job, spending a year traveling the country and returning back home to Greenville and now I am:
• Creative Director in my 9-5 job for an innovative multifamily real estate company.
• Owner of my own business, where we handle all things social media related for local businesses (management, content creation, paid advertising, etc.). My primary focus is on local restaurants--in case you hadn’t been over to .greenville yet, I have a serious love for our local food scene. ❤️
• I create content and work with brands over on Out Of Office Family, where I share our (mainly southeastern US) travel/camping adventures and a little real life with my family.
Now I work on The Local Greenville more or less for fun, in any free time I have. (I use that term really loosely.)
All of this to say that a LOT can happen in a few years if you’re open to it and not scared to take some chances. Thank you for following along with me in this space--I’d love to hear about more things you’d like to see here! (Or on the 💯 other accounts I run.) 😆
SOLID day one on this campaign. Amount spent? $5.00.
Love when work and play combine—which it does 95% of the time when I’m shooting content for Firestone Complete Auto Care over at . Sharing a few from the Memorial Day weekend shoot out at South Cove on Lake Keowee. 🇺🇸
We've got an opening for ONE new social media management client starting in June!
