Shri Hochihalli Ramaswamiah Keshava Murthy was trained in Bharatanatyam under Guru Natuvanar Gundappa. H.R. Keshava Murthy established his institution, Keshava Nrityashala, in Bangalore in 1949.
Since then he has trained over two thousand students in the dance. He has also created several dance-dramas and adapted Kannada poetic works in his productions. He has actively engaged himself in propagation of the art in Karnataka, serving various bodies in different capacities.
He was president of the Karnataka Nrithya Kala Parishath for many years. Among the many awards he has received are the Karnataka Kala Tilaka in 1981, the Shantala (1994) and Rajyotsava Awards (1998) and the Sangeet Natak Award (1999 — 2000).
