2 Corinthians 12:1-10 Psalm 33:8-13 Matthew 6:24-34

LET GO AND LET GOD

In our lives from infancy we get attachments. We cling to people, things, practices and sometimes what we cling to is not useful. If you wish, you can place a coin in the hands of the baby (be careful so that the baby does not place the coin in the mouth). The baby does not know the value or the use of that coin or money but he or she will hold the coin firmly in his or her little palm.

Jesus Christ today calls upon us to let go and let God. We need to let go of our worries and anxieties. This is not easy because sometimes we think that we are the centre of our lives. Letting go of our fears and anxieties is not the same as being negligent, not being responsible. Letting go of our fears of what we shall eat, wear, drink means that we do our part but aware that above every situation there is God who even cares for the birds and flowers.

St. Paul had the serenity to trust that God will see him through the challenges and storms of life. Yes, in weaknesses, Paul was strong. This strength was not from him but from God who helps us in all our troubles as the Blessed Paul teaches us, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all consolation, who consoles us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to console those who are in any affliction with the consolation with which we ourselves are consoled by God.” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)

Psalm 8:4-9
Romans 5:1-5

John 16:12-15

GLORY BE TO THE FATHER AND TO THE SON AND TO THE HOLY SPIRIT

Today we celebrate one of the great mysteries of our Catholic life and faith. This is the Mystery of the Most Holy Trinity. Our Faith in this mystery is expressed in some of our prayers like the Sign of the Cross, Glory be to the Father... I believe in One God among others.

Our Faith in the Most Holy Trinity is revealed by God Himself in the Sacred Scriptures. In the creation of the human person, God said, "Let us make..." (Genesis 1:26). God says, "Let us make" and "our own image and likeness" NOT "our own images and likenesses."

In the Baptism of our Lord Jesus Christ, there is also the revelation of the Most Holy Trinity. God the Father speaks from heaven, God the Son is in the water being baptized and God the Holy Spirit descends upon Jesus Christ in form of a dove (may you please see Luke 3:21-22)

In the Sacrament of Baptism, we were made participants in the life of the Most Holy Trinity. Jesus Christ Himself said, "Go therefore and make disciples..." (Matthew 28:19). In saying, "In the name of" Jesus Christ shows the Godhead of the three Divine Persons (The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit)

In celebrating this Sunday, we pray that we may always model our lives on the love and communion that exists between God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be world without end AMEN

7TH WEEK OF EASTER - FRIDAY
Blessed Anne García

FIRST READING
Acts 25:13b-21

King Agrippa and Bernice arrived in Caesarea on a visit to Festus. Since they spent several days there, Festus referred Paul’s case to the king, saying, “There is a man here left in custody by Felix. When I was in Jerusalem the chief priests and the elders of the Jews brought charges against him and demanded his condemnation. I answered them that it was not Roman practice to hand over an accused person before he has faced his accusers and had the opportunity to defend himself against their charge. So when they came together here, I made no delay; the next day I took my seat on the tribunal and ordered the man to be brought in. His accusers stood around him, but did not charge him with any of the crimes I suspected. Instead they had some issues with him about their own religion and about a certain Jesus who had died but who Paul claimed was alive. Since I was at a loss how to investigate this controversy, I asked if he were willing to go to Jerusalem and there stand trial on these charges. And when Paul appealed that he be held in custody for the Emperor’s decision, I ordered him held until I could send him to Caesar.”

Being pruned

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine grower. He takes away every branch in me that does not bear fruit, and everyone that does he prunes so that it bears more fruit.” Are you willing to let yourself be pruned? Pruning is necessary if a plant is to produce an abundance of good fruit or beautiful flowers. If, for example, a grapevine is left to grow without pruning, it will produce many small grapes that are good for nothing. But if care is taken to prune the vine, the maximum number of good grapes will be produced.

Jesus uses this image of pruning to teach us a similar lesson in bearing good fruit for His Kingdom. He wants our lives to be fruitful and He wants to use us as powerful instruments of His grace in the world. But unless we are willing to go through the purification of spiritual pruning from time to time, we will not be the instruments that God can use.

Spiritual pruning takes the form of letting God eliminate the vices in our lives so that the virtues can be properly nourished. This is especially done by letting Him humble us and strip away our pride. This can hurt, but the pain associated with being humbled by God is a key to spiritual growth. By growing in humility, we grow ever more reliant upon the source of our nourishment rather than relying upon ourselves, our own ideas and our own plans. God is infinitely wiser than us and if we can continually turn to Him as our source, we will be far stronger and better prepared to let Him do great things through us. But, again, this requires that we let Him prune us.

Being spiritually pruned means we actively let go of our own will and our own ideas. It means we give up control over our lives and let the master grower take over. It means we trust Him far more than we trust ourselves. This requires a true death to ourselves and a true humility by which we acknowledge we are completely reliant u

Going away

Imagine what it would be like if Jesus were to visit you in person -- visibly and audibly. He sits you down next to him, holds your hands in his, and tenderly tells you that you're about to die. He says that soon he will take you home to live with him forever in heaven

You heard me tell you, ‘I am going away and I will come back to you.’

Letting go of people so close to our hearts is something that is quite hard to do. Just thinking of it may bring us sadness. They could be our children whom we have cared for from birth, through school, until they become adults and have a family of their own. They could also be those whom God gave us to minister to in their spiritual journey; from the time we fed them with His Word and shared God’s love, as we walked with them through their trials and difficult times, praying with them, carrying their burdens and standing in the gap; interceding for them, until they mature spiritually and grow in their relationship with God and in time are spiritually fruitful in their work for the Lord.

These are the people whom God has given us to touch us and make us feel and understand the true meaning of love and care. We always want to be with them or at least be in constant touch with them. We become very protective of them and being distant from them may be difficult for us. They have become like one of our very own children. Being distant does not only mean being apart physically, but being emotionally and spiritually separated.

Letting go of the people we love is good as we allow them to depend solely on the Lord and to draw their strength and wisdom from God. But we need to let go! Hard as it is, true love means letting them follow their own path in life, even if it means separation, even it means pain and heartache. Loving means being able to let go and allowing our love ones to grow into what God has planned them to be!

Humility is a partnership with the Holy Spirit

True humility is acknowledging the good that you do while knowing and proclaiming that the true source of your goodness is the Holy Spirit.

Your good deeds, your giftedness, and the love that you share while doing good is the fruit of being made in the image of God. But we are all weak and vulnerable to sin; left to our own efforts, we look and act very unlike God. So, Jesus gave us his Holy Spirit to empower us to look like and act like our divine Father.

Even atheists cannot do good on their own. They too were created in the image of God. It is God’s goodness within them that causes them to reach out to others in love.

In our first reading today, Jesus heals a lame man through Paul and Barnabas as they preach to the Greeks. The crowds cannot see Jesus; they see only Paul and Barnabas, so they interpret the miracle according to their pagan background — they conclude that Paul and Barnabas are gods.

Paul and Barnabas do deserve some credit. They had to make the decision to do what God inspired them to do. They chose to trust God to work through them. Ministry is a partnership between us and the Holy Spirit.

For example, first Paul noticed the lame man. Immediately, he felt concern for him, like Christ. As he looked at the man, he discerned through the Holy Spirit that he was open to the healing love of God. So, loud enough for all to hear, Paul healed the man as a testimony of the power of Christian compassion.

When the people credited Paul for the miracle, how did he respond? Well, how would you or I respond? We’d probably say, “No, I didn’t do anything special” — which is our usual way of dealing with compliments. But not Paul. He knew that true humility means accepting the compliment while giving the credit to God. It’s a partnership.

Paul explained that he and Barnabas were bringing good news about the real God

Peace be with you!
We're almost done! We do have one more prayer to say together tomorrow. Let's finish strong!

Pope Francis has spoken on many occasions about his devotion to Mary, Undoer of Knots.

So today, we would like to pray for our Holy Father and for the Church.

And with the novena coming to a close, if your prayers have been answered, please leave a comment HERE to let everyone know!

Here are the prayers for today:
Day 9 - Mary Undoer of Knots Novena
Most Holy Mary, our Advocate, Undoer of Knots, I come today to thank you for undoing this knot in my life.

You know very well the suffering it has caused me. Thank you for coming, Mother, with your long fingers of mercy to dry the tears in my eyes; you receive me in your arms and make it possible for me to receive once again the divine grace. Mary, Undoer of Knots, dearest Mother, I thank you for undoing the knots in my life. Wrap me in your mantle of love, keep me under your protection, enlighten me with your peace! Amen.

Mary, Undoer of Knots, pray for me.

Virgin Mary, Mother of fair love, Mother who never refuses to come to the aid of a child in need, Mother whose hands never cease to serve your beloved children because they are moved by the divine love and immense mercy that exist in your heart, cast your compassionate eyes upon me and see the snarl of knots that exists in my life. You know very well how desperate I am, my pain, and how I am bound by these knots. Mary, Mother to whom God entrusted the undoing of the knots in the lives of his children, I entrust into your hands the ribbon of my life. No one, not even the evil one himself, can take it away from your precious care. In your hands there is no knot that cannot be undone. Powerful Mother, by your grace and intercessory power with Your Son and My Liberator, Jesus, take into your hands today this knot.

[Mention your request here]

I beg you to undo it for the glory of God, once for all. You are my hope.

O my Lady, you are the only consol

The effects of the Holy Spirit

Jesus said to Nicodemus: “‘You must be born from above.’ The wind blows where it wills, and you can hear the sound it makes, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes; so it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.

Do you sense the presence of the Holy Spirit in your life? In today's gospel reading, Jesus offers an image of how the Holy Spirit works in us. He analogizes the Holy Spirit to the wind. We can hear the wind blowing but cannot see it. We do, however, perceive the effects of the wind. For example, when you see a tree swaying, you know that the wind is blowing.

So it is with the Holy Spirit in our lives. The Spirit comes to us from an unknown source. We may not perceive the Holy Spirit Himself, but we will be able to see the effects of the Spirit. When we perceive a new strength within us, or an increase in virtues, or an ability to forgive, etc., we are aware of the fact that the Holy Spirit is present, leading us, transforming us and guiding us.

Additionally, we do not know where the wind goes once it passes. So it is with the Holy Spirit. If our lives are under the power and care of the Holy Spirit, we do not know where we will be led. The Holy Spirit leads us in the moment but does not typically reveal our whole future. We must be content to be led by the daily gentle presence of God, allowing ourselves to be moved here and there. This requires much trust and abandonment.

Reflect, today, upon the powerful presence of the Holy Spirit in your life. Look for the effects of the Holy Spirit to discern whether or not you are being truly led by God. Allow yourself to be led and moved by the Breath of God and anticipate great things in your life.

Come Holy Spirit, renew within me the grace of my Baptism and lead me each and every day in accord with Your divine will. I abandon myself to Your glorious care an

Unexpected company and personal reassessments

We all feel very sad when somebody very important to us dies. The feeling is as if a big important part of us had been taken off from our lives. Cleopas and his companion had this feeling of sadness as they were walking towards Emmaus. They felt that a big part of their life had been taken from them with the death of Jesus.

However, as they were journeying going to Emmaus they did not recognize that the Risen Christ was already walking and conversing with them. So, while walking going to Emmaus Jesus asked them, "What is this conversation which you are holding with each other as you walk (Luke 24:17)?" They told Him their story and seemingly false expectations about Himself (Jesus).

Why false expectation? Because Cleopas and company were expecting Jesus to redeem Israel. Jesus was already their hero, who would not consider Jesus as hero when He can make the lame walk, He can restore a blind man’s eyesight, He can bring back to life a dead man and so forth. They thought that it was now all bed of roses for them since they were now following Jesus. Therefore, they were terribly disappointed with the death of Jesus.

What is the lesson for us in this gospel episode? This tells us that we must not expect that everything now would be turning out right for us since we are now followers of Jesus. There would still be trials, persecutions and disappointments for these are part of the test of our faith in Jesus.

When they arrived at Emmaus they asked Jesus to stay with them. While there at a table with them He took the bread and blessed, and broke it, and gave it to them (Luke 24:30). After doing it in front of them they recognized that it was the Risen Christ who was with them, it was Jesus who was conversing with them while they were walking going to Emmaus.

Daily Morning Prayers for the Dead

Immortal God, Holy Lord, Father and protector of everything You have created, we raise our hearts to You today for those who have passed out of this mortal life.
In Your loving mercy, Father of men, be pleased to receive them into Your heavenly company, and forgive them the failings and faults of human frailty.
Your only Son, Christ, our Saviour, suffered cruelly that he might deliver them from the second death. By His merits may they share in the glory of his victory over sin and death.
We pray for all the faithful who have died, but in particular for those dear to us- parents, relatives and friends. Nor do we forget those who did us good while on earth, who helped us by their prayers, sacrifices and example. We pray also for any who have done us harm and stand in need of Your special forgiveness.
May the merits of our Virgin Mother Mary, and those of all your angels and saints, speak for us and assist them now. This we ask in Christ's name. Amen.

PRAYER FOR DECEASED PARENTS
O God, You have commanded us to honour our father and mother. in your clemency, have mercy on the souls of my father and mother and free them from their sins. Grant that I may see them in the joy of eternal light, through Christ Our Lord. Amen

Prayer to Our Lady of Mount Carmel
O most holy Virgin, Our Lady of Mount Carmel, you are the joy of the Church Triumphant, the help of the Church Militant, and the comfort of the Church Suffering. Therefore, extend, we pray you, your merciful glance on those numerous souls who suffer in the fires of Purgatory and free them, that they may be admitted to the beatific vision of God as soon as possible.
Remember O holy Virgin, to help especially those my relatives, and those that are abandoned and devoid of help. O most merciful Virgin, pour the merits of the precious blood of Jesus and the elect brides of Jesus Christ until they are comforted in the Heavenly glories.
And you, Holy Souls, O elect souls, who can do so much
