Focus on what feels good.
In classes last week some of the exercises we were doing were pretty challenging. It's so easy for our brains to focus on in what's hard about it and to stop. So instead we tried to focus on what felt great in our body in that moment. Ears, toes and teeth came out top. 😂
A small shift in what our brain attached to, that at least made us smile in that moment, and for that, made the exercise a little easier.
We can apply it to day to day too. It's so easy to focus on what's not going right or what doesn't feel good. Can you nudge your focus onto what is going right or what does feel good for you?
A review from a Scar massage client this week. 🥰
For some a few scar sessions might be what is needed over the space of some months to make changes, for others one session might be enough to release the tension that may have been there for years.
I am always amazed at the power soft tissue therapy can have.
I’m also very grateful to anyone who takes the time to write such positive feedback.
If you would like some help with your abdominal scar please do get in touch. September spaces going live next week.
A recent testimonial from one of my ladies. 🥰
Classes in our community are more than ‘just’ exercise but they can be about only that if that’s what you are looking for.
Classes designed for women at all life stages, with an emphasis on pelvic health.
It’s the last few weeks of term before the summer break and there are a few spaces available for some classes in Girton. 😊

I saw this quote and it made me laugh out loud so thought I would share it.
Being a parent is not easy and you are not alone if you are finding it tough in any way.
There is a rare space in Pilates tomorrow ( Friday) at 9:30am in Eddington.
If you would like to join this lovely class of women you can book here 👇🏻

3 reasons to have scar massage therapy.
1. To improve functionality of the scar
2. To improve sensitivity of the scar
3. To improve the appearance of the scar
Scar therapy can help scars in so many ways including improving redness, pulling, tightness, restriction, numbness, itching, pinching, puckering and overhang.
I offer abdominal scar massage during the week at my home studio in Girton. Get in touch if you would like to know more.
A little reminder for those who are new to my classes this term.
What to expect when you come to a class of mine.
1. A warm welcome. I’m always super grateful that anyone has chosen to join my class when there are so many options out there. It's never taken for granted.
2. No judgement. There is no expectation on any class member when entering the class. It’s your class, so you choose how hard you want to work. Of course I’ll be there encouraging and cheerleading along the way. Some days you might not be there solely for the exercise but maybe for the community, to switch off from life outside or because you know just moving a little will help.
3. A lot of coaching. I give lots of coaching/ cueing for a few reasons. To help those who are auditory learners understand what they should be doing. If I notice someone doing a movement that needs correction I will always start with a verbal cue. I also think it’s really useful to give tips so anyone wanting to workout at home is informed. Understanding how your body works is empowering.
4. A friendly community. I seem to attract the loveliest for women. No cliques. Women who support each other.
5. A lay down. At some point we will always lay down, and boy it always feels good
6. Fun. Well I think it is, and hope that comes across, helping everyone to enjoy their time. I tell bad jokes. I just can’t help myself and sometimes I think to myself 'zip it Nikki', but I appreciate the laughs even if they are just humouring me. It might also be the lightest part of someones day so if we can raise a smile that’s a win for me.
7. A holistic approach to fitness. It’s not just about the exercise. Knowing what is going on for each of my ladies before they start gives me a better understanding of how I can give advice and support them in class.
8. Enough experience to provide a suitable version of each exercise based on who is in the class- I know who has what going on before every class and plan/ coach accordingly.
9. I miss members when they aren’t there or can’t come anymore. My community is very small and even though you may feel like you are just one person in my class, we notice when you aren’t there.
10. Empathy. You won’t get a ‘no excuses’ vibe in my class. More so a conversation about what is going on for you. Once you feel supported you might have greater capacity to push yourself more with exercise.
I come from a dance background and it was very much the vibe back in the day for teachers to shout and lead through creating fear and shame. It didn’t work for me, or for most of the girls. It sucks the joy out of it. It wasn’t until I finally had a kind teacher in my late teens that I really improved. Movement should be fun.
11. If you are unable to make a class that week a chance to make it up in another class.
12. A large network of body-experts (physios/ dieticians/ acupuncturists/Osteos/ hormone specialists /other coaches etc) in Cambridge to refer onto when I don’t know the answers, can’t help or it’s out of my scope of practice.
13. Music- An opportunity to sing or dance to the music if that makes you feel good. Always encouraged.
14. 23 years experience of coaching fitness and many qualifications. I am always learning. I’ve seen a lot in those years and know how much the industry has changed. I also know exactly how I want to be part of it, and what bits don’t serve the women I work with.
15. A listening ear if you need it, space if you don't.
16. Leaving feeling better than when you arrived.
Can't wait for you to join us.

It’s 9 years today since my youngest was born.
Here are 9 things I have learnt from you.
1. That being a mum is both the most rewarding and hardest job in the world. A constant stream of contradictions. Feeling like you’ve nailed it and the next that you are epically failing. Believing you have one thing sussed whilst new challenges pop up putting you right back in your place. But… seeing what a wonderful person you are is reassurance something is going right.
2. I don’t understand Pokémon cards
3. Will there always be balls of different sizes in every room in our house?
4. Hearing your laugh fills my whole body with warmth.
5. Will socks ever make it into the washing basket?
6. When you are unwell my heart feels it.
7. Mum’s bodies find a new way to be after giving birth (and you were a large baby). You were worth every change that was made to my body.
8. To see how grateful you are for the little things, reminds us all to be more thankful.
9. I’ve entered into embarrassing mum territory with both children now. I fear there is no turning back.
Happy birthday little one.
