Tim Eagle - Buckie
Promoted by M Macrae on behalf of the MCUA, both of 26 Hay Street, Elgin, IV30 1N Councillor for Ward 3 of Moray Council
I was a fierce defender of sports and leisure as well as libraries during my time in the council. For me they are vital services in the heart of communities. If anything I argued we should be using them to deliver more face to face services not less. If you are interested in the finances and number of users to our sports facilities you can find more from the answers to an FOI request at the link below. Interesting reading.
Is £1.3million a lot to spend on good facilities across moray? I wonder what other councils spend, probably far more.

Please please take the time to complete these surveys for Moray Council Whilst I fully understand the budget constraints of the council and the pressure on cllrs it is vital our community based frontline services are protected.
Future of Moray's libraries and leisure facilities under examination Both cutbacks and higher charges on the table.
I really hope we do not see this in Moray. Shutting frontline facilities for me was never an option. These are vital for health and well-being. Just shows how tight council budgets are.
Looking forward to the next year with Buckie Thistle Football Development. The P7 section has spaces left and we are keen to welcome new members so if you have a son/daughter going into P7 who is keen on football please do get in touch. Training is on a Tuesday night with games mid-week and at weekends so plenty of opportunities to play and its a nice friendly group from across the various primary schools in Buckie.
There is still time to send in thoughts to this inquiry. The UK Government Scotland are looking into the impact of cost of living on rural communities in Scotland. Transport, infrastructure, constrained economic growth, cost of energy etc all spring to mind as to many other areas. You can e-mail [email protected] with your own views or that or your community organisation.
Its critically important that the government are aware of the specific issues we face here in Moray, it helps our elected representatives to negotiate better capital and revenue funding.
MPs call for rural Scottish communities to give views on rising cost of living - Committees - UK Parliament The Scottish Affairs Committee today calls for people living in rural and remote parts of Scotland to share their experiences of the rising cost of living.
Fancy some Cricket? Buckie Cricket Club are providing free coaching for Primary 5,6 and 7. Great opportunity so do go along. Well done to Buckie Cricket club for offering.
Will be interesting to see what happens with this story. Leisure is one area that is not ring-fenced or protected by the Scottish Goverment so pools/leisure were often put forward as a budget saving item during my time in the council. Not that we would ever have considered them. We all know council budgets have been decimated so if Scot Gov do save these pools in effect they are slashing council money but giving no options to cut costs. I think pools should remain open, they are vital but with budget pressures predicted in the future what happens here could be interesting for pools across Scotland.
Scottish Government urged to save Bucksburn pool from 'devastating' closure Thousands of people have signed a petition demanding the pool be saved and now a north-east politician will raise the issue in the Scottish Parliament later this week.
Amazing to see Buckies Roots nominated for the Moray Heroes Award. A highlight of my time in the council was working with this group of incredible volunteers. Please do take the time to vote for them, they do a lot for our town.
Moray Heroes - Nominate now - HN Media We will celebrate all of the inspirational individuals and groups who make our communities great, especially those who have made a significant difference throughout the course of the COVID-19 pandemic. We can't wait to recongise and reward them at this very special event.
So very sad for Buckie. Did not have time to listen to the debate but I hope cllrs asked what now for Buckie!!
Very frustrated politically as well, I was told by a number of people during the campaign that all SNP Cllrs were going to support Buckie. If they had today then Buckie would have won.
So to be clear on support today for Buckie -
Conservative Support - 5 including Cllr Marc Macrae Moray who fought hard and seconded the ammendment to support Buckie.
SNP Support - 2 (The two local cllrs)
Forres chosen for new school ahead of Buckie Vote held this morning.
Is it Irony that on the day Moray Council officers are telling councillors to vote for a new Forres high school because it’s in worse condition than buckie that buckie high are currently sending all pupils home because the heatings broken!!
I hope cllrs support the new Buckie high at the big meeting today.
Congratulations to John Stuart on being appointed as the new Councillor for Buckie today and thanks to all those who took the time to vote for me yesterday. Turnout was very low at only 29% and whilst it went to the 4th round it was not to be.
There is a lot to work on in Buckie, with the school and leisure centre, offshore wind, harbour and town redevelopment and much more. Cllrs are the voice of the people and I wish all 3 local councillors well. Buckie is a great place, I hope they stand up and fight for it well.
Just 3 hrs left to vote now before polls close. If you still have your postal vote you can hand it into any polling station. Thanks to all who have supported me today.
Count is tomorrow morning in the fisherman’s hall in Buckie. By tomorrow afternoon we should know who the new councillor for buckie is.

Stunning day for 3rd November. Great to be out and about in the ward. Many people already voted but there is still plenty of time.
POLLS ARE OPEN
My huge thanks to the incredible elections team at Moray Council for all they have done to organise this by election and to all those who are staffing the polling stations today. Polls are open until 10pm.
Every single vote will count today if I stand a chance of winning, so please do go out and vote. I worked hard for Buckie for 5 years and will do so again, starting with the schools debate on Monday if elected.
Thats the last day of campaigning done, tomorrow morning the polls will open for the Buckie by-election. Please do take the time to vote. There are many important issues facing Buckie just now and strong representation is needed. I have the experience and I will work day and night to support the people of the ward.
Vote Tim Eagle 1 tomorrow at your local polling station.
A huge thanks also to all those who have returned on paper, e-mailled and completed the online survey. I am working through each and every one of them and if elected tomorrow will make sure these points are raised in the council.
On the 2nd October 2019 I submitted a motion to Moray Council with a comprehensive letter to NHS Grampian regarding the future of Dr Grays hospital. It came from weeks spent speaking to consultants, staff and management. Other Cllrs at the time voted it down! I still can't believe they did.
Keep MUM have done an amazing job championing Dr Grays hospital. We cannot underestimate its value to Moray. I fully support their latest call to action and have completed the below.
Please join them and do the same by copying the letter to your MSP.
I was delighted when I first heard Buckie High and our leisure centre was next in line for a new build. Whilst i get there are many schools in need it felt like a great thing for the town, building on some of the community work currently in place.
To see that this has changed is hard given I spent many hours in meetings and discussion about this over the last 5 years and because the council had during a consultation told us all it was the priority.
If elected this week I'll be asking the questions I have been asked these last few weeks across the communities of this area, especially around what happens to Buckie if it does not go forward.
Eagle slams plans to put Buckie High new build on back burner RECOMMENDATIONS to prioritise Forres Academy for a new build over Buckie Community High School (BCHS) have been slammedn.
I believe the strikes have been called off, but please don’t forget about postal votes, remember you can hand them into any polling station on Thursday as well. Only 4 days to go. Vote Tim Eagle on 3rd November.

Thanks to all the team out today and throughout the week helping. Just 5 days to go. Vote Tim Eagle on 3rd November.
This is it, the final Saturday of the campaign. We are out today in the ward delivering more leaflets and speaking to local people. I have always acted on the concerns and thoughts of local people. The role of councillor is all about responding to the community. Please do tell me about your thoughts by completing this quick survey.
Most importantly remember to vote on Thursday 3rd November. Turnouts are often low but to win I will need every single supporter voting. If we can help you get to the polling station please do let me know.

Important: New Buckie High School - Update
These papers have just been published. Whilst I have nothing against Forres I am saddened to see Buckie is no longer the priority school. For all my 5 years in the council I was told Buckie was next in line and spending had been limited with that in mind. I have not yet read this paper in full but it confirms that small works to Buckie have apparently changed the overall grade of the school and so it is no longer a priority.
I have so many questions about this, how and why, whether the £5million spent on Forres was value for money, how Buckie has been reviewed etc. If elected I'll ask them but no matter who it is I hope the Buckie Councillors do raise this as a massive concern.
It is worth taking the time to read for yourself if you are interested in the high school and leisure centre because the leisure facility would have been included in the new school.
I should say the school and leisure facility including pool is not under any threat, this was all about the new build which we had anticipated being very soon.

Additional: The council line is that Buckie is only being pushed back by 2 years and will be applied for in the next funding round with a finish date of 2029. My concern with this is whether in a highly competitive grant Moray Council could secure 2 £50million contracts within 2 years of each other and can they afford (with rising interest rates) £100 million in capital over such a short timeframe.
Would love to hear the thoughts of local people in the comments below.
These are just some of the headlines I was involved in over the years. Each and everyone came about because of local people asking me for help or for me to raise a concern. It was a real privilege to servce this community. At a critical time for Buckie I am ready and have the experience to serve the community again. Vote Tim Eagle on 3rd November.
Just 9 days to go until the Buckie By-election. Your vote is really important.
I sometimes get told, 'does it really matter'. I think it does. Local elections are about working together for our shared home. I want to continue to work with everyone for the benefit of Buckie. To win I will need every single supporter going out to vote. Don't forgot to use your postal vote or at the ballot box on 3rd November.
It has been great to hear from people all over the ward as I have been out leafletting the last few weeks. I have the experience and am ready to hit the ground running, If elected I will in the first week
- Arrange a meeting to seek assurances over the future of the high school and swimming pool.
- Ask the council and police to look into concerns about speeding and antisocial behaviour.
- Seek an urgent update on town centre and harbour improvements.
- Write to education service and health and social care to ask about future plans and how they will seek to ensure support for staff.
Postal votes will drop on the doormats from next week. Please do return quickly to ensure it gets back in time. For those in the ward this is your chance to pick your candidate. Whoever wins will be a voice for Buckie for the next 4.5years, ensuring we move forward with the high school, harbour and town centre works and representing and supporting groups and individuals across the area. It would be great to see a strong turnout.
