How absolutely sad for Griffi the realization that his family wasn’t coming this time 😭. Griffin is your typical stubborn and vocal older houndy guy. He isn’t afraid to tell you how he feels and certainly marches to the beat of his own drum. Despite being a bit aloof, typical of the breed, Griffi really loves affection. Belly rubs are his fav!

I have just endured this last Sunday & will again soon!

"It turns out that pets also have last wills before they die, but only known to vets who put old and sick animals to sleep." Twitter user Jesse Dietrich asked a vet what the hardest part of his job was.
The specialist replied without hesitation that the hardest thing for him was seeing how old or sick animals look for their owners before they fall asleep. The fact is 90% of owners don't want to be in a room with a dying animal. People leave so they don't see their animals leave. But they don't realize it's in these last moments of life that their animal needs them the most.
Vets are asking owners to stay close to animals until the end. "It is inevitable that they die before you. Remember that you were the center of their lives. Maybe they were just a part of you. But they are also your family. Even if it's hard, don't give up on them.
Don't let them die in a room with a stranger in a place they don't like. It's very painful for vets to see how pets can't find their owner in the last minutes of their lives. They don't understand why their master left them. After all, they needed the consolation of their master.
Veterinarians do their best to make animals not so scared, but they are totally strangers to them. Don't be a coward because it's too painful for you. Think about the animal. Endure that pain for them. Be with them until the end.

Terrified at shelter. she’s miserable bc she’s about to pop, terrified and she has a bad wound on her neck.😢💔
She has been a stray in my home area for several months. Could not be caught. On April 17th there was a big dog fight and as I ran to check it out that's when I knew what was going on. She was in heat. So that is the week she became pregnant. The place she had been mostly staying at, he said he believed he could catch her now as we went again to try to get her. So finally we did get her last Sunday. She's huge. Definitely about to deliver. What I mean by being scared is she is almost feral. 😢💔
She will not run from us in the kennel when we walk up to her, but shakes all over and p's on herself. I know for sure if she was let out we wouldn't catch her again.

She had a huge belly. She delivering this morning. 5 so far 6/19/24
She’s around 3-4 yrs. Pregnant weight was about 38 lbs.

Their broken hearts are so sad, all we can do is give them a big hug and tell them everything is going to be ok. Along with the fact We had over 17 calls today people wanting to bring their dogs to the shelter to surrender.

OVER A YEAR AT THE SHELTER 😢NEEDS A HOME ❤️

I went to the Shelter to help with cleaning today. I always stop and say hello to all the dogs. Barney has been with us a year. He always gets off his bed to greet me. Not today he was back in the corner shaking like a leaf. His buddies left for RIchmond SPCA last week. He was not chosen because of his age an declining health. Someone Foster this old fella. I brought him home to give him a break. Everyone at the Shelter loves him. He is calm and sweet as can be. All food and medical expenses covered.

Meet Scout! He is one beautiful hound dog. He was recently brought in after he was found wandering all alone along a very busy road.
Scout is estimated to be about 3 years old. He weighs 45 pounds and he's heartworm negative.
Scout is a sweet somewhat shy boy but he welcomes attention. He is quite content with lounging on his comfy bed. He will come up to his kennel door to greet you. He is eager for a treat or just a little attention.
Sadly no one has come looking for this handsome hound and he is ready for a new forever home.
Scout has good leash manners and is easy to walk. He loved to get outside to check out all of the scents in the air. He enjoyed his kennel break while soaking up some sun and getting endless back scratches.
He is a gentle and calm dog who would love to snuggle up with you and hang out. He has a fun and playful side too and he loves to play with toys.
Surely someone out there needs Scout in their life! Hounds make great family pets. Won't you come meet Scout and see for yourself what a great boy he really is? The shelter is full and we need adopters!

This poor fellow found himself in the shelter after his owner died.
BUDDY , who is about 5, lived a quiet life with his elderly owner. He wasn't used to kids or lots of activity.
A younger relative took BUDDY aftet his owner's death but he growled at the young kids, and found himself homeless again.
Last Hope was alerted to BUDDY' s
" pound predicament " by a hotline call from a friend of his late owner who knew BUDDY too.
She knew BUDDY was a good dog , but overwhelmed & confused by the sudden & sad changes in his life.
Last Hope is looking for a home for BUDDY without young children.
He will thrive with a Beagle-loving buddy ( or buddies) of his own.
