Working social media on a craft show and you find out from your toxic social ex, Instagram goes down?!

Have you heard the term “ice dye”?

It’s more than just tie dye, though you can tie dye ice dye, confusing huh?!

Ice dye is the process of putting dye on ice and letting the ice melt the dye into the fabric.

Why would we do that?!

We loved snow cones as a kid or lived in a hot humid environment where ice was only for tea or maybe it’s the lack of control we have over where the color will go?!

Whatever it is, the finished garment comes out with this watercolor-esq look that can never be exactly repeated.

I chose colors of the rainbow because I love them, the way the colors shift in the dye process and all the symbolism associated with🌈.

Catch me at two shows next month with

No more boring pants for my son (his lament every time we head to the men’s section)!!
He says they fit, I hemmed and added the copper studs because pressing and little details are what make garments from home 🎶sing!

I will say reverse engineering these was not perfect. I took some notes to use on a future pair (the original ones had some patchwork knees you didn’t notice but could be fun in contrast) and know it is only myself or who might find my mistakes seeing them in person one day.

Well crap, but yeah it happens.
🪡
Growing up sewing was graded, like in a class or under my mom’s meticulous eye. Breaking a needle or any number of mistakes I still make (is it a DSM5 undiagnosed thing or is it just motherhood🎶) would send me in a tailspin of freezing self doubt.
🥶🥺
I’m sick of that.
👩🏻‍🎤🤟
Let’s all remember failing/breaking/ripping out, is part of the rebuild, and progress over perfection.

May your bobbin be full.

Tracing is a highly underrated skill!

there are garments that just fit right, and you wear them till they can’t be mended anymore.

Time to trace!

This is a pair of pants for my teen that he loved, hopefully I took enough notes and videos while I disassembled them. It has some intriguing pocket front waistband details that are either going to be super fun or super confusing.

What have you made from a tracing/ruboff?

I love seeing how the clothing I’ve made continues to wear well. Star butt pockets every time!😍⭐️

Up cycling a vintage tablecloth we no longer use, that also has some immovable stains, into a is proving to be, shall we say, boob-a-luscious. 🤦🏻‍♀️I will figure this out but it might just be a floral frontal appreciation top no matter how I cut it.

I don’t think I ever shared my I just started using it to cart my attempt at knitting. The stripes are from in Paris and shrunk up a bit with ironing, linen and the zodiac canvas from my ancient stash.
Inside are divided pockets so the knitting project is separate from whatever else I’m toting. Even a little leather loop to hook keys onto the outside.

A little art play while we have THREE WEEKS off of school! Seriously it’s so long, I would love the third week moved to spring break and get two weeks then or a week later start to the school year probably would be the best. I’m trying to keep these kids occupied and still enjoy the rest/end of the year.
Hit me up with all the instapot and crock pot recipes so the robots can do some of the work.

Sunday sewing, making my first long sleeves after such success with the short sleeves, this tiny wale corduroy (Liberty I think) has been waiting for one of my kids to be interested in it, too many years waiting and now it’s mine. It’s kind of holiday festive don’t cha think?

Craft shows, one way to get out of your head/studio and see other folks, shop, talk shop and generally get your products out there. I’ve done shows since 08/09 in some form and have packing in and out streamlined as much as possible. Making a mini store experience is fun and mind bending. Building neural pathways, finding the 💗love and 🌈

09/12/2022

It’s time to get packing for the show. One last run to get supplies then on to inventory and load up!! Shows are more than just the day of sales, it’s brand building, community, and some R&D on products.

That isn’t to diminish how much WORK it is, you have to lift, walk and be on, or you can build your prices to include help or bribe friends and family to help.

So shop small this season and all seasons! If you’re local come out to Ventura Sunday from 11-5

This is laundry day! All my denim garments and those of my family get washed together, I don’t do anything special because all my ice dyed work is washed in synthrapol from after they are processed/rinsed and that helps remove dye that didn’t set and keeps my colors vibrant.

[image description: a pile of laundry on an aqua and teal icedyed comforter. There are black denim overalls, ice dyed rainbow coveralls, black and white plaid pants on a grey hanger and light blue denim on an aqua hanger.]
