A pleasure to have provided this illustration for dynamic running dad and daughter duo, Daz and Lily π
Whinlatter parkrun this morning. Temporary alternative course making it even tougher than the usual one, which as parkruns go, is tough! Steep hills, fast descents and lots of mud. Great for fell runners, so no complaints from me! Plus a stunning location under blue skies making it a great way to kickstart a Saturday.
club run/trudge from Hartsop today, in lots of the white stuff π€ Tough going at times, especially carrying an achilles ni**le, but oh so worth it.

I had the pleasure of seeing the exhibition at museum, Ambleside yesterday. I may be biased as my current Fellrunning Cartoon Calendar cartoons are on display every month, as well as my dad's old Walsh shoes and my old vest, but!... I was totally blown away by the rest of the treasures on display. Joss Naylor's Bob Graham, Langdale and Fairfield Horseshoe race certificates, Bill Teasdale's racing spikes, lots of fantastic photographs and much more. Anyone with even a passing interest in fell running and Lakeland history should give it a visit. There's also interactive elements and current stories from present day fell runners of all abilities too, so get along and get involved!
March on the Fellrunning Cartoon Calendar.
Are you aligned with your sole as we head into spring? If not, it's a slippery slope!
KONG WINTER SERIES 2023/24
A sneak preview of one of our series prizes which will be awarded at our last race - BB KONG - on Saturday 17th February. Huge thanks to Jim Tyson Illustration and Cartoons for the artwork!
What an amazing series it has been so far this year with 4 different winners in the male and female races - who knows who will be victorious on Saturday?
We hope to see many of you there and remember to bring your studs - it is a proper steep descent!
Blue skies over Langdale.for today's Sunday Social Club Run. The Band, Bowfell & Crinkle Crags. Signs of spring in evidence despite winter still clinging on up high.
We've finally made it through January and on the Fellrunning Cartoon Calendar we now turn our attention to a must-see exhibition beginning February 14th at in Ambleside. is a look at all things fell running related- past, present and future. It's already shaping up to be a fascinating insight into this wild, wonderful and wacky world of ours. It's on until October, so if you're in the Lakes this year, do yourself a favour and git thrang among it!
A wintry loop of Steel Fell, Calf Crag, Gibson Knott and Helm Crag on today's Sunday Social club run.
First race of the year for me today and also the first club champs - The King of the Castle.
Short and sharp uphill time trial from Borrowdale YHA to the summit of Castle Crag.
A real lung burner on a real stunner of a day! Nowhere near where I want to be fitness wise, but totally cool with that. It is only the 7th January after all!
A unique little charity event, with vegan cakes and coffee in the YHA after. Plus the usual great fell running community craic!

Happy New Year π
#2024
Happy New Year from Fairweather Fellrunner as we kick off the Fellrunning Cartoon Calendar for 2024 π
When the weather's been as bad as it has recently, sometimes the only thing to do is get off the fell and retreat to the sanctuary of the pub. Both activities come with their own risks however... Especially when certain old school characters are about π
Things were tougher in't auld days y'know...
#2024
NYE AAC Social Run.
A seemingly increasingly rare dry weather window for a nice sociable circuit of Nab Scar, Alcock Tarn & Loughrigg Fell on today's run. Happy New Year everyone! π

Wansfell Race 27/12/23
A very wet Wansfell for my first race as a V50.
Probably a personal worst time, but conditions weren't exactly conducive to a fast one. Then again neither is the lack of running of late nor the indulgence of a birthday celebration month! I managed to stay upright on the very slippery descent though, and perhaps the main thing- had a lot of fun doing so- that's a win of sorts, right?
Also met up with some of the very finest folk the fell running family has to offer βΊοΈ
Onwards and upwards into 2024. Some exciting things in the pipeline for next year, not all of it running related!
The latest Fellrunner mag has just dropped. Here's my illustration to accompany Darren Fishwick's tale.on the sad subject of the Sycamore Gap Tree.
Just a note to say I'm down to my last box of Fellrunning Cartoon Calendars, and Monday is the last recommended date for UK post... So this weekend is your last chance to order one for Christmas!π

Got a very nice surprise at the Christmas Party on Saturday.
2023 Club Championship Male V40 winner! π
A surprise because the last time the results were updated I was sat in second place and had no expectations of winning. I can't think of a better way to bow out of my forties π
Nice to earn the mug I designed too!
Two weeks to go until Christmas!
Will one of these be under the tree..?ππ

Against all the odds, managed to whisk me away for my 50th π
Feeling blessed π
What a fantastic, inspiring place. Nice to see a bit of sunshine too π
Thanks to everyone for the birthday wishes- you're all stars β¨
Last night of my forties... I've had some fun going through old photos and reminiscing. I did have vague plans for more posts with memories of different phases of my life in the run up to me turning 50.
As is often the case however, life gets in the way and now it would seem that time's up. Instead, here's a photo dump of various times in my teens and twenties (including South Lakes finest indie guitar legends- LUNAR π€£)
I can only apologise for the bout of self indulgent posts recently, but fear not as now it's time to put it all behind me, move on and embrace my fifties! π±
You'd better watch out.... For tonight is KrampusnachtπΉI don't know what's worse- Krampus or cramp, both are the stuff of nightmares! Anyway, an opportune time to let you know this and other loosely running related Christmas cards are available now at my Etsy store (link in bio)βοΈ
Band Life.
Continuing the nostalgia trip in the run-up to the big 5-0. Here's Jay and I in Highfield Street Studios, Liverpool (RIP), recording Seven Seals' album in about 2006(?). You can never have enough guitars, even when there's a big dirty Moog synthesiser to compete with in the sonic spectrum.
Snow day like today to order your Fellrunning Cartoon Calendar! πβοΈ

Kong Clough Head Fell Race today- my final race as a V40.
Set up shop and sold some calendars and cards there too, with the help of and son, Joss.
The race route was frozen and icy underfoot but nothing like the snow that came down south of Dunmail on the way home. Stuck in barely moving traffic for hours between Grasmere and Ambleside, we had to leave the car near White Moss and trudge back to Ambleside. Chaotic scenes of abandoned or stuck cars all the way back into town... But also a great community spirit with people helping each other out. Great to see the Parish Centre and Rydal Hall provide a refuge for people who are stuck for the night. Be safe out there, folks.
Thanks to Jon Rylance and Lou Osborn for the pics.
We've reached the final month of the year and thus, the final page of the Fellrunning Cartoon Calendar for 2023 featuring the final outing of the year (or not, as it turns out) for Fairweather Fellrunner. But don't despair as he's back (with pals) in January to kick off the 2024 calendar π
Make sure you have yours by visiting my Etsy store (link in bio) or obtaining one from , , , (Ambleside & Keswick stores)
More nostalgia in the run-up to a significant birthday... This time with the focus on fell running- something I was half decent at, as a kid at least. I don't know what's happened since!
Nowadays with the junior fell running scene thriving it's often overlooked that had a juniors section in the 80s and 90s. Back then it was a relatively small grass roots scene with a handful of us juniors doing the guides races and winter league.
It's fair to say running in general was a lot less popular back then, let alone fell running. It's potentially a cooler proposition for the youth of today, especially through the lens of social media and the growth and crossover potential of trail and ultra running. When I was young the scene was populated with weird bearded fellas wearing too-short shorts and Walshes. In my teens I gravitated to a sport that I perceived to be much cooler- skateboarding. Then music and band life dominated my twenties and thirties and exercise of any sort dropped off the radar. I eventually came back to fell running however, and now I'm one of those old weird bearded fellas disappearing into the mist. Maybe it's rose tinted spectacles (or just thick clag!), but I now look upon those old 80s fell runners as the epitome of cool! π
A couple of pics from Kirkby Moor Fell Race last Saturday. The last time I did this race was 13 years ago when I went with my old pal and the late, great club mate and fell running legend, Roger Bell (RIP).
A very fast and runnable course on a beaut of a sunny day, frosty underfoot in places and still very wet and boggy where the sun had shone.
People laugh when I say things like it's a bit too runnable for me, but certain types of fell runners will know what I mean!
However, by consciously working on the things that don't come as easy to us is where we'll find growth. Playing to your strengths but not hiding from your weaknesses....
Something Roger was very good at β€οΈπͺ
