Guarda District, Portugal 📍

Nestled a few hours southeast of Porto lies the mountainous district of Guarda. It's safe to say that if you're used to the bustling south coast of Portugal then this sleepy region will feel like a quiet oasis in comparison. I absolutely loved the 10 days that I was lucky enough to spend here a few weeks ago and I'd even say it's one of my favourite locations that I've ever visited. There was just something about its traditional easy going way of life, the everyday calmness, lack of tourists, plentiful nature and endless hills, rivers and mountains to name a few. How could I forget the people that I met along the way too? ❤️

A Butterfly and a Portugese Thistle 🦋

Famalicoa, Portugal 📍

Witnessing this butterfly in its element chilling on this Portugese Thistle was a split moment but a majestic experience nevertheless as I pieced together the synchronicities that resonated with me most. I strongly believe that we can find our true path by attempting to find the synchronicities that happen all around us. When we experience a moment in our lives where something starts to resonate, I believe that it's a sign that you're exactly where you're meant to be in that moment in time!

A Bugs Life 🪲 ...

Guarda District, Portugal 📍

I'm normally never quick enough to capture bugs when I'm out on my travels but this little guy was more than happy chilling on what I think is a peppermint leaf as I explored my friends farm in Portugal last week! Can anyone identify the species?

Moonlight Camping in the Portugese Mountains ...

Guarda District, Portugal📍

I've been staying on a friends farm/retreat in Portugal this week chilling, helping out and enjoying the amazing scenes that Guarda District has to offer. Im nestled within a sleepy mountainous valley in the shadow of Serra da Estrela otherwise known as Portugals highest mountain and it's easily one of the most amazing places that I've visited yet 😍

In this image you can see my bell tent lit up by fairy lights with some added help from a full moon as it gently paints the landscape with its rays of light!

Cir Mhor from Glen Rosa ⛰️

Glen Rosa, Isle of Arran📍

I had the absolute pleasure of visiting the Isle of Arran 2 weekends ago with my good mate 'Khalil' from Jordan who I met in Java last year. We headed to the tip of Glen Rosa and up Cir Mhor (pictured here) to Caisteal Abhail which is one of my favourite camping spots in southern Scotland!

Arrochar, Scotland📍

I really liked this shot I got of Sam hiking under some Lenticular clouds as the sun lit up the mountains in the background a few weeks ago. Lenticular clouds normally form within the epicentre of high pressure mountainous atmospheres and in my experience their presence normally indicates that awesome sunsets and good conditions for photography aren't too far away! On this occasion we had a golden sunset then a night under the Aurora Borealis before waking up to an amazing sunrise the following morning 😍

A Bed with a View 🏕️ ...

Beinn Narnain, Arrochar📍

I got my mate Sam to place one of his lights in my tent to illuminate it whilst doing a 10s exposure to catch the Aurora Borealis last Friday night. It's my second time grabbing a shot like this one and I don't think I'll ever tire of snapping photos of my tent in these situations 😜

One man and his dog under the Aurora 🐶

The Trossachs, Scotland📍

Check out this image I snapped at the weekend of my mate Sam and his dog Lula watching the Aurora display from our summit camp on Beinn Narnain. It was by far one of my best camping/photography trips to date and it was amazing to see the Aurora since it was my first time summit camping since I returned from Asia in November. It was a nice reminder of how amazing this country can be 😄

Did you manage to capture the Aurora? I'd love to see your photos in the comment section below 😍

Thank you to David Blair from 23 Music Management for asking me to come and grab pictures of Mickey 9s on their last gig of their latest tour in Saint Luke's & The Winged Ox in Glasgow! What an absolute belter of a night and what an amazing venue to get creative in 😍

Donkeys and Peaks for Weeks!

Mardi Himal, Annapurna Range, Nepal📍

A donkey grazing in the March 2023 Sun framed by one of Nepals most sacred Himalayas, Machhupuchhre which is believed to be the home of Lord Shiva in Hindu culture!

This photo was taken en route back down from High Camp on the Mardi Himal trek which is a new popular trek located in the shadows of the Annapurna Range, North of Pokhara in Nepal. I heard the sound of the donkeys bells around its neck and had to quickly jump into position to try and capture the moment with Machhupuchhre in the background. I suppose it's a good example of why it's always good to look back when you're hiking!

Rishikesh, India📍

Rishikesh! Where the Beatles studied Transcendental Meditation and spent time with Donovan in the 60's. It's also the birthplace of Yoga and it's an amazing part of the world that I was lucky enough to spend just over a month in back in early 2023. With spiritual gurus, Kirtans and Satsangs aplenty, Rishikesh is also known for it's sacred ties to religion and spirituality.

Back to the grind 📸 ...

Pentlands, Edinburgh, Scotland📍

Hello strangers! Firstly I'd just like to say thank you to everyone that expressed their deepest condolences last month. Your messages of sympathy definitely brought light to the situation so thank you so much once again. As most of you know I've been taking time out after sadly losing my mum last month but now I feel that it's time to resurface and get back to what I know best!

I had a great wee night camping in the Pentlands despite the stormy weather last weekend with my good mate Sam a.k.a Haggis Hunter Outdoors, as hes known on social media. It was my first time camping in Scotland since I returned back from Asia and I almost forgot what it was like to spend a night in a pine forest so it was really nice to break that long dry spell from camping I hope it never happens again 😂

Anyway I hope the Universe is being kind to you all 🙏 You can expect a whole lot of 'welly' from me from this day going forward!

12/03/2024

I can't believe I'm writing this 1.5 years after losing my Dad but it brings me the deepest possible sadness to inform you all that my wee beautiful Mum passed away yesterday at 12:30 in Monklands Hospital at the age of 65 with my sister and I by her side 💔 It's important to understand that her condition deteriorated very rapidly over the weekend and she's in a much better place now. She was a total character loved by many for her outgoing and totally selfless personality and the tragic news will come as a shock to those of you that knew her. She raised me all by herself and I owe her everything for making me the man I am today. We used to have it so tough when I was a kid growing up in Bellshill and then our luck changed and we all created relatively good lives for ourselves and I just can't believe she's no longer with us to enjoy the good times. She deserved more than the Universe gave her and it shouldn't have ended like this 😭

I am absolutely broken 😭💔

Love you forever gorgeous angel ❤️

I'll be posting her funeral arrangements as soon as they've been made!

Road trippin' through the Gobi Desert ...

Gobi Desert, China📍

In this shot that was taken with my drone, I used the 4x4 to give a sense of scale in amongst all the layers, colours and textures that crystallise together to form the Gobi Desert in all its vastness. The whole experience of such an alien looking landscape could only be compared to how I'd imagine it would be like to drive on Mars 😂

Northern Vietnam Culture ...

Ha Giang, Vietnam 📍

3 women who are part of an ethnic group known as the 'Hmong People' located in Northern Vietnam, sitting having a chat in the morning light.

The Hmong people are an indigenous group that can be found in East and Southeast Asia in countries such as; Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Myanmar and China. Spending time living in their homes and witnessing their traditional ways firsthand was one of my biggest highlights of Vietnam!

Stewart Gray Photography

Landscape Photographer, aspiring mountaineer and summit camper from Glasgow and my passion is to travel Scotland and Europe capturing its true beauty! My favourite place in the World is the Highlands & Islands of Scotland with the Isle of Arran, Glencoe and the Isle of Skye being a few of my typical hunting grounds.

My interest in photography grew back in 2017 with my love of the Outdoors as I spent most of my time camping around the West Highlands of Scotland developing a spiritual connection to the natural landscape. In late 2017 I travelled Europe visiting Countries such as; Belgium, France, Luxembourg & Switzerland developing my passion for Landscape & Travel Photography and I’ve been exploring as much as I can since! I regularly collaborate with other Mountaineer Photographers and Videographers and enjoy learning different styles and techniques of photography from other creatives!

“My approach to Landscape Photography is to trek and wild camp. I find this the most effective way of learning my trade centralising myself within a landscape studying the light immersing myself in its natural beauty! I enjoy the physical and mental aspect of what I do and find it empowering from a well being perspective.”
