Giving Nurse Mare Foals Sanctuary, Love, & Nourishment
Within various equine industries and breeding programs, it sometimes becomes necessary to use nurse mares to provide nourishment to foals to allow the more valuable dams to continue with their pre-foal careers. Nurse mares are specifically bred to produce milk for the more desirable or expensive offspring. This practice leaves the less desirable foals orphaned and, sometimes, inhumanely discarded.
Through the work of Lucky Shoe Horse Rescue and education outreach efforts, we give foals who are orphaned sanctuary, love, nourishment and an opportunity to realize their own equine potential. Lucky Shoe cares for our foals with the intention of eventually offering them for adoption to loving, permanent homes.
