"Showcasing Young Talent" is on Saturday, May 18th. Bring your family and friends and help celebrate the amazingly talented youth of Cairns. Junior and Senior Music Bursary awards will be presented.

On May 18th, we will be presenting the second of this year's CCMG concerts, "Showcasing Young Talent". The winners of both the Junior Music Bursary and Senior Music Bursary will be performing and receiving their awards. We will also be inviting previous bursary winners and other very promising young musicians to perform. Come and join us for what has proven to be a very popular concert.

It will be quite a special concert with the string players from the recent Choral Society Musical Les Miserables, Brian Hurdley soloing on his special Euphonium, the award winning Julie Mercer on her accordion, the 2023 Eisteddfod Woodwind Champion, Kalina Winiarski on Flute, the beautiful singing voice of Jennifer Watson and the Cairns Flute Ensemble. On March 9th, the first concert of the season will take place at the Presbyterian Church at 2.00pm followed by afternoon tea. Congratulations to the 2023 QMTA Senior Music Bursary winners! Liam Gane (cello), Lilly Tidswell (vocal) and Sana Puschenjak (cello) were invited to perform at the CCMG concert on October 14th at which time cheques and certificates were presented. All three students impressed the adjudicators with their performance and interviews and shared the bursary.

It wouldn't be Christmas without enjoying Handel's Messiah!

Congratulations to Rachel Kochi, Mikayla Daley and Tiger Kawaguchi for receiving the QMTA Junior Music Bursary Award in conjunction with the CCMG. Rachel and Mikayla tied for 1st Place while Tiger received 3rd Place. All three students performed at the CCMG concert in August where they were presented with their awards.

"Choral Classics" with touring German Choir 'Junges Vokalensemble Hannover' is coming to Cairns on August 1st at St. Monica's Cathedral. The concert begins at 7.00pm - gold coin donation.

The Senior Handbell Choir from St. Monica's will open the concert on Saturday. If you haven't heard a handbell choir before now is your chance. The Cairns Flute Ensemble will close the concert with an exciting arrangement of Rossini's Overture to "The Barber of Seville". You won't want to miss this.

Yesterday, world-renowned pianist Sergio Tiempo conducted a masterclass with four students hailing from Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University and University of Queensland. It was an exceptional occasion for knowledge-sharing.
