“Closing Time, every new beginning comes from some other beginnings end.” -Semisonic.
MRSS Musical Theatre presented, "Cinderella (Taylor's Version)," on June 12, 13, 20, and 21, 2024. Under the direction of Ms. Roberts (Adapted Script), Ms. Oliverio (Musical Director), and Emma J (Student Head Choreographer), the musical theatre class delighted audiences with their interpretation of the classic tale of the girl with the glass slipper in a jukebox musical format, set exclusively to Taylor Swift songs.
Thank you to our incredibly hard working students that brought this story to life. In the words of Superintendent of Schools and CEO, Teresa Downs, "I hope that the cast and crew are incredibly proud of what you have achieved together."

Students of the Maple Ridge Secondary School's musical theatre program are telling the classic tale of Cinderella – but in a style that befits the pop star Taylor Swift.
'Cinderella (Taylor's version)' is a jukebox musical telling the tale of the poor servant girl who is magically turned into a princess for one night by her fairy godmother, to attend a ball and meet a prince who is searching for his true love.
In a race to get back to her house before the magic spell wears off, Cinderella loses a glass slipper, which is found by the prince, who then goes searching for the woman who fits the shoe, the woman at the ball whom he has fallen in love with.
Cara Roberts is the stage director of the show, MRSS choir teacher Claire Oliverio is the musical director, and Grade 12 student Emma Johnston is the student lead choreographer, who choreographed all the numbers in the production and collaborated with Roberts to pick the final range of Taylor Swift tracks for the show.
Cinderella (Taylor's version) still runs June 20 and 21 at 7 p.m. in the Maple Ridge Secondary theatre, room 1215, at 21911 122 Ave., Maple Ridge.
The first act will be 30 minutes, the second act 45 minutes, with a 15 minute intermission. There will be a concession and all the proceeds will be going towards the purchase of grand drapes for the MRSS theatre which cost $10,000.
Tickets are $5 for students and seniors and $10 for adults and available by email: [email protected] or by calling 604-463-4175.

It was a perfect night for an outdoor rock show at the Maple Ridge bandstand! I’ll miss these folks! But I can’t wait to see and hear all they’ll be up to in the future! I know many will keep rockin outside of school and beyond high school, which is the ultimate goal of this class. Cheers to an awesome show everyone!
The grand finale Rock Band concert is this coming Tuesday, June 18th at the Memorial Peace Park Bandstand! Don’t miss one final epic night of tunes by our 2024 Rock Band class. Pack a dinner or get takeout from one of the nearby spots and come enjoy a summer evening of music!

Congratulations to the MRSS Grad Class of 2024! I am incredibly proud of all the amazing choir/musical theatre students that have accomplished so much in the past five years. Thank you for contributing your gifts, sharing your talents, and putting your trust in this choir program with me; I couldn’t have imagined building and growing with a better group of young musicians. 🫶
We’re a week out from our final band concert of the year featuring Wind Ensemble, Beginning Band and Jazz Band, with edm dance music interludes by DJ ALD, and a special rock performance from String Theory! This concert will also be Mr. Weingartner’s last one with the bands, as he is leaving MRSS at the end of this year. So come on out and celebrate the band’s growth over the this past year as we dance the night away. It’s been a blast.

cont’d: Final MRSS Choir Concert “Farewell”
cont'd: Congratulations on an incredible 2023/2024 year, MRSS Choir! The five ensembles (Junior Concert Choir, Senior Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, Boy's Choir, and Girl's Choir) ended the year with a bang with their four SOLD-OUT performances for their final, "Farewell!"
If you asked me five years ago on my first day at MRSS what I imagined for myself and the program... I actually wouldn't be able to answer you (because I was mostly living day to day, haha).
But I truly couldn't have imagined the incredible milestones I would accomplish with this exceptional group of grade 12s who shared their "first day" with me as well. I couldn't have survived a global pandemic, zoom choir, virtual concerts, gym concerts, elementary tours, workshops, and festivals, without a group as trusting and as respectful of the growth process as them. To see them through their last MRSS choir concert was an honour and a privilege.
I look ahead to the upcoming years with a program of students that understand the importance of hard work ethic, professionalism, emotional maturity, and passion for performance. Three cheers for five years, everyone! 🎶
