It’s organza bag time! Our dahlias are our brides. Each of them is disbudded (side buds removed for bigger flowers) and bagged to avoid insect damage, instead of using chemicals. We should have wheel barrel loads of dahlias in a few weeks ❤️😊😊

We planted over 1400 lisianthus today! They will take another 4 months to flower, usually one stem per plant. They have long vase life of 2 weeks, and their elegance is similar to roses. They also last well as boutonnière. One of our favourite flowers! Hope to have them available in August and September.

In 3-4 months, our ranunculus will be in full bloom! They are my favourite crop, with long vase life and unbeatable elegance. They are sprouting in our unheated sunroom right now, and we hope to have them planted out in a few weeks, with supplementary heating only for those cold nights below -5 degree Celsius. They grow in spring like weather between zero, up to 20 degrees. We haven’t had a “proper” spring for years now, as it always jump from winter into summer in a week. To grow ranunculus we have to create the environment that they like, which takes a lot of effort and planning. They are so worthwhile though! Thank you for getting Canadian farmers these beautiful corms

Our ranunculus and anemone are sprouting and enjoying some sun today! It feels so warm as if we can start planting them out now. Once our hoophouse door is finished, we hope to only heat it with propane for those really cold nights only. Maybe we will have ranunculus and anemones for Mother’s Day? If not we will have them in June 😆. Farming is always dependent on Mother Nature. With the unpredictable weather pattern, we likely need to invest in more hoophouses as for more controllable environments. Let us know by commenting below how you are dealing with unpredictable weather for your garden!

Many have asked if we will have dahlia tubers for sale in 2024. We lost quite a few from the floods but many are coming back thanks to the extended fall. We will only find out the quality of the tubers this year after digging and storing. We are still not sure if we will have a sale yet, or will we offer shipping next year, as it’s been very expensive to ship with chances of lost parcels. Here are some of the varieties that we should have, so please subscribe on the home page of our website for our newsletter for tuber sale updates!
Thanks for your inquiries!

How to make your cut dahlias last longer:

1) always use a clean vase and clean water. Bacteria can build up quickly with any organic material and drastically shorten the vase life
2) recut the stems under water so that there’s no trapped air bubble inside the stem
3)use hot rap water in the vase and put the stems in
4)keep your blooms away from heat and sun

We will a few more weeks of dahlias before they get dug up! Treasure the beauty and enjoy the moment 😊😊😊
