Geneva Instruments and our sponsorship of Black D**e, Champion Band of Great Britain

Geneva Instruments are proud of not just our full range of brass and wind instruments but in the way we are able to invest back into individual players and the wider brass band movement. This was seen at its pinnacle on Saturday 21 October, at London’s Royal Albert Hall at the annual National Brass Band Championships, when the Black D**e Band sponsored by Geneva Instruments was crowned Champion Band of Great Britain for the 24th time, and the 6th time they have achieved it under the leadership of Professor Nicholas Childs. In addition, this year they have retained their Yorkshire Area title, come runner-up at the European Championship and were fifth at the British Open in Birmingham.

Sponsorship in the musical world is a two-way street. The players who are the final recipients of the sponsorship in the instruments that they choose to play need to have confidence that the instruments are everything that they promise to be. They need to be secure in the knowledge that when the chips are down in a big performance the instrument that they have chosen won’t let them down in any way, that they can express themselves fully and without restraint. That's a big ask that puts great pressure on the company providing those instruments to get it right all the time.

From the company point of view, they need to know that the instruments that they make are in safe hands, that whenever they are played, their instruments will be played by the best in the business, who always strive for perfection.

As well our support for Black D**e as a band throughout the year, nearly all the band members choose to play on Geneva instruments and indeed many of the principals have been closely involved in their development and design working with us as our featured Development Artists. Long may that involvement continue.

But it’s not just at this highest level of banding that Geneva Instruments believe in supporting musicians and through our Geneva Foundation we are mentoring and backing young up-and-coming musicians in the UK and in Europe to help them move through to the highest level. It is with immense pride that we take our place beside them to support them as the next generation of players, and we look forward to supporting young talent further in the future and expanding that support across the world.

This week though, the Black D**e Band are back at the top where they belong and playing our instruments in a performance last Saturday of great maturity, and we congratulate every one of the musicians and all those involved organising and supporting the Band on their fabulous success.

At the beginning of the year my domain name on my website was not renewed and as a consequence of this I have lost the ability to be able to access anything on the website and the shop.

Unfortunately, a corrupted version of the website still exists and I am unable to do anything about it or even take the information and pictures offline (my web designer is working on it🤞). Please do not visit the website.

Following on from this I have set up an online shop for you to be able to purchase RM Alliance Signature Mouthpieces and Tuition. It's all new to me so hopefully it will serve its purpose and I can once again get those mouthpieces out to you.

Welcome onboard Jamie Smith. Looking forward to a fruitful partnership with Geneva Instruments

We are delighted to welcome another fantastic new artist to the Geneva brand.
Jamie is a performer, educator and conductor held in high regard. After starting to play the cornet at the age of 8, he has worked his way broadly through the music world with specialisms in chamber music, education, brass performance and conducting. Jamie is the current Principal Cornet of the world famous Grimethorpe Colliery Band as well as being a founding member of the award winning A4 Brass Quartet.

In September 2020 Jamie began working with the Antigua and Barbuda Youth Symphony Orchestra, where he works with the brass players on the island. Jamie has also led training days and workshops with youth brass bands, as well as teaching at Huddersfield University, Leeds University and Birmingham Conservatoire.

Jamie is new to Geneva and takes the role of Performance & Mentor Artist, playing the Geneva Cardinal Cornet.

Lovely evening, last night, celebrating Cockerton Prize Silver Band 150th anniversary concert. Great concert and many thanks for the invitation to appear as guest soloist. Thanks to Geneva Instruments for your continued support.
Nice drive along the M62 today for an afternoon concert at Burnley Mechanics Theatre with Black D**e Band.
Feet up now with a 🍺 and watching the PGA Championship (and seeing my darling wife❤️)

Well, its that time of year again when I invite Soprano & Cornet Players to register for my Cornet Spotlight on Sunday 4th June🎺

Held this year at Huddersfield Town Hall, registration is from 9am with the Spotlight commencing at 9.30am.
Aimed at players from Grade 5 +, for a ‘fun packed’ two hours all you need to do is register your name, email address and band name with me @ [email protected].
