TL;DR: Even if you don’t menstruate please educate yourselves on the many forms of birth control and the endless list of endometriosis symptoms (this podcast is a good starting point: https://insixteenyears.com/episode92/). Their is no cure for endometriosis. No hormone can reduce or reverse endometriosis however hormones might mask your endometriosis symptoms. That does not mean you are cured or that the endometriosis has stopped progressing.

I’m 33 years old as I write this. Back in January, something strange was happening with my body. At first I thought I just have a severe bladder infection and after an antibiotic or two I would be back to work. In reality my symptoms started to get much worse. It wasn’t just a bladder infection, I also had a cyst on my o***y along with excrutiating and unexplainable daily pelvic pain.

After many walk in clinic appointments and long hours of waiting at the hospital see and treat I found out the cyst had burst and the fluid was blazing a trail of intense inflammation through my entire pelvis. I was given Naproxen, told to rest, and basically wait it out. Instead of improving, I was reaching a point of being unable to walk due to the pain. Pelvic, lower back, hip, sciatica, burning lava leg pains along with constipation, nausea, and the worst pelvic cramps I’ve ever experienced in my life. These weren’t normal period cramps. They were doubled over, cannot move, steal your breath, and voice cramps. My period dissappeared and I was diagnosed with polycystic ovaries and suspected endometriosis.

I’m currently on Lupron Depot, a drug that is supposed to put my body into chemical menopause. I am extremely fortunate that the two injections I have had so far were 100% covered by the Abbvie Care Support Program. I’ve had very few side effects and have some improvement of my endometriosis symptoms. I am extremely fortunate I have been able to get an ultrasound with an endometriosis excision surgeon. I am also extremely fortunate that my gynaecologist is a capable surgeon. While I don’t know how successful the out come of my surgery in November will be I have some hope that I will not experience severe pain everyday for the rest of my life.
