"There's no growth in the comfort zone and no comfort in the growth zone." One of my colleagues shared this in a class today. -T. A. Mpita
Love that I got to see my cousin on this trip.
Regretfully, I want to share that Kierra Sheard-Kelly will no longer be able to join us today. We have already begun organizing for another date in the near future. Stay tuned for that announcement. My friend, our new associate pastor, James Doggette, Jr. will still be introduced during our scheduled 11:15 AM worship experience. See you there!
Kierra Sheard will be with us tomorrow, Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 11:15 AM when we install our new pastor for Young Adult Ministry. All are invited! I know that whatever you’re facing, Something has to Break!
When you serve in ministry it is a rare opportunity that you get to serve alongside this kind of anointing. I am so grateful to welcome my good friend to the pastoral team in Chicago. His appointment here as the Associate Pastor for Young Adult Ministry is the beginning of a whole new season and I welcome it with an open heart! JD is the real deal and this journey just got a whole lot more exciting!
I am looking for Seminary students to join our team. Pastor Claval Hunter has emptied out Seminary of our interns and I need those that remain who have been looking for an opportunity like this.
Chicago is America's third largest city and you can be a part of the ministry impact there! Contact us today to join John T. Boston, II at the Historic Chicago Seventh-day Adventist Church. This praxis environment will put you in the front seat of high impact, community based church growth initiatives. You will be able to learn and then practice as a leader roles in a context with real needs. Revitalization, evangelism, discipleship, collaboration are critical tools you will walk away with. You could spend your seminary experience on the cutting edge of urban ministry and you can start right here.

Our children in Chicago need every opportunity for safety, love and compassion that we can give them. This is a huge first step and I would be so grateful if you help me share the word.
Dwight Nelson has been serving 40 years at Pioneer Memorial Church. I’ve been serving four weeks at Chicago Shiloh Seventh-day Adventist Church. He is a mentor and model. The light of his ministry has impacted countless lives. Thank you Pastor Dwight for holding up the light! Thank you for blessing my life! Shine on!
(Pastor Nelson came to speak at an event for us in Chicago after he announced that he will begin his transition from Pioneer Memorial to another phase of ministry.)
One of the most difficult conversations in this country surrounds faith and civil rights. How these two pillars interact will be at the center of our dialogues this weekend. See you there in-person or online!
Have you ever heard of Adventist Christian Education? (Second largest Christian education program in the world)
If yes, you may like an excerpt from this article I am working on that will be published soon:
SIMPLE LIST:
1. Acknowledge we are in a state of crisis.
2. Stop spending in areas that won't matter without a future generation.
3. Leverage local resources to make the school as incredible and free as possible.
4. Choose leaders wisely to steward the school for growth.
5. Lean in to the areas that will make the biggest difference in the shortest time.
LONG LIST:
"We are facing a crisis of values. All of the energy being placed on revitalization and reclamation are in many ways commensurate with the devaluation of Adventist School ministry. There are five critical, aggressive adjustments to be made if Christian Education will rise as a viable option in urban centers.
1. Acknowledge that building up suburban schools will not remedy failures in urban centers. More people are moving into urban communities while youth ministries are moving into the suburbs. Some of this is driven by lack of racial and spatial awareness, but it is a major issue.
2. Put your money where your mouth is. Stop spending on campgrounds, churches and community service centers for now. Make the main thing, the main thing. If we keep up current trends there will be not be another generation to fill the camp grounds, volunteer at community centers or sit in the church buildings.
3. Remove obstacles where it matters. Do not continue to ask for tuition in sub par facilities and out dated environments. Utilize your local church budget to offset the expenses of the school with extreme interest. Make the school as free as possible. Make the school as state of the art and innovate everywhere. The school is not for Adventist children. It is for all children.
4. Choose school board leaders and pastors that are deeply passionate about Adventist Education, Spirit led, have vision, tenacity and are willing to work with others. It's also vital that they understand that we are in a state of crisis and business as usual is a recipe for failure.
5. Relentlessly pursue partnerships, innovation and philanthropic opportunities. Without these ingredients you have signed a death notice for the school. If the same people are at the table that have always been there, you will rise no higher and go no further than where you are currently."

Thank you to these beautiful people that organized the single largest care gathering for ministry families in North America. My soul has been tired and ready to give up, but this gathering brought me back to Jesus and ministry partners in the ways I needed it most. Authentic sharing and victory in vulnerability! We don't just overcome by the blood of the Lamb, we also must have the word of our testimony! Revelation 12:11
So proud of my friend SK Adjei. He serves the whole community as a spiritual leader and not just those that are members of his local congregation. In one of my favorite cities on the planet! O-H-
