Immediately after the planes hit the WTC on September 11th, 2001, airspace over the US closed. Planes already in the air, midway or less from their destination were forced to land at Gander Airport in Newfoundland, Canada.

Their story is exceptional. A Broadway show was written and produced, called "Come From Away", which can be seen on Apple TV only. Parts of it are also on YouTube.

On 9/11/19 a documentary showing this incredible story played in 750 select movie theaters across the US only once and I was lucky enough to see it. The love and respect these people showed and continue to show all these years later are exceptional.

After the movie ended (to rousing applause and cheers), the Producer, Director, Gander’s top cop during that time, and a couple who had been on one of the planes surprised us all and were nice enough to talk with us individually and allow us to photograph them. (FYI... The couple had met and fallen in love while in Gander, then returned a while later to be married.)

2,977 people perished on that day 23 years ago. They will never be forgotten.

The number of first responders? I don't know - but I do know they will never be forgotten either - not one. And we cannot forget the families who lost their loved ones.

We salute the heroes of that day, and pray for those who lost their lives.

May they all rest in peace...

Hi September!

There are always mixed feelings when September comes. The horrific and terribly sad memories of 9/11, the excitement and (good) tears as our little ones begin their school careers, and those leaving high school and college embarking on their new journeys, full of promise.

Labor Day marks the end of summer with fall peeking through. Leaves starting to turn their neon colors as we begin to breathe in the fresh air of autumn.

Sadly we've had our last barbeque of the season but look forward to hot chocolate with marshmallows as we sit by the fire.

We're doing things a little differently tomorrow as Dave Burgher and Karen Shaw summarize some of our past speakers' takeaways you may have missed and what's ahead for the HOW Business Group as it continues to go through it's transformation.
