TO THE WOMAN WHO IS SLOWLY FADING AWAY...
To the woman who has lost her spark.
To the woman whose get up and go, has well and truly gone.
This is for you.
This is to remind you, that you don’t have to be everything to everyone, every day.
You didn’t sign up for that.
Remember when you used to laugh? Sing?
Throw caution to the wind?
Remember when you used to forgive yourself more quickly for not always being perfect.
You can get that back again.
You really can.
And that doesn’t have to mean letting people down or walking away.
It just means being kinder to you, feeling brave enough to say no sometimes.
Being brave enough to stop sometimes.
And rest.
It starts the moment you realise that you’re not quite who you used to be.
Some of that is good, some of that is not.
There are parts of you that need to be brought back.
And if anyone in your life is not okay with that… they are not your people. Your people will be glad to see that spark starting to light up again.
So, if you have been slowly fading away my friend, this is the time to start saying yes to things that bring you joy and no to things that don’t.
It’s really pretty simple...

I’m not sure who else may need to hear this today, so I will share… ❤️

I was listening to a podcast and in it, the host, a therapist, shared a technique for framing the importance and process of taking care of our mental health.

She used the example of sore muscles after a hard workout. When we have pushed ourselves hard, and feel the effects after, we often will take care of ourselves. Rest. Recover. Pause. Massage. Bath.

*Whatever it takes until we are ready again.*

And if that pain persists, we seek help. We call the doctor for help to heal whatever is hurting. We take care of ourselves physically after the experience of a hard workout or injury.

When we experience a mental or emotional event, or even simply the exhaustion of life, there is soreness there too, in our hearts and in our minds. Yet, so often, we don’t understand the importance of rest, recovery, or pause. We don’t do what needs to be done to reset after whatever it was that pushed us hard in our mind or emotions.

Because it is a pain or soreness hard to define by many, we feel it invalid… or not worthy of care or time. And when that pain persists, are we seeking help to heal it?

As an active person, I find it so easy to recognize when my body needs a break… can we normalize when our minds need a break too?

Repeat after me…

Cannot emphasize this enough

It took a second for me to realize he had not come down the slide with his sister and friends.

He stood at the top, cloth in hand. Step by step he moved to the side. My heart broke as I then watched him walk down the staircase, face drawn, fighting the current of kids running to the top with excitement and giggles.

As he got to the bottom, he asked “can I get my tickets back?”

“You don’t want to try it, Buddy?”

“No, mama. It’s too scary.”

His tickets were handed back and he ran to catch up with his friends. Almost immediately he moved on to the next ride.

I stayed with that heartbroken feeling of the slide for some time, until I realized he had done exactly as we had talked about.

He gave himself permission to feel.

He acknowledged and made a decision, and he moved on.

🔸Dear fear, you may have a seat at my table but not a room in my house.🔸

I want to entertain you. I want to get to know you so I may understand you better. I want to know how to have a conversation with you. I want to sit with you. I want to know what to do the next time you visit. Visit when you must.

But you cannot stay here. You cannot control every moment after this.
