Dyslexia Untied - A True Underdog Story

The on going story of the newest indoor soccer team, Dyslexia Untied, to take the world by storm! We're starting from the bottom...

02/06/2016

Well our final game had been run and won... But not by us. It was a good effort considering last time we played this team we lost 16-5. We played pretty well but we're out classed by a team playing in finals next week.

Thanks to everyone who came out and watched a game over the last 3 seasons and everyone who liked this page. It's been heaps of fun but unfortunately life gets in the way sometimes. Cheers to all the boys for sticking it out, even when we were on the receiving end of a few beltings. It would be great if we could get the team back together soon.

If anyone knows anyone who would want to play, regardless of skill or fitness, msg this page and we will be in touch. The only thing required is commitment to a weekly game as much as possible.

Cheers again!

So after a tough season on the court and struggling for numbers, we have decided that tonight will be the final game for the mighty Dyslexia Untied... For now...
The game is at 7.10 at springers if anyone is interested.
Last match report will be out later tonight.

Just a quick note to say that a new season has started. Unfortunately we haven't been successful in the sense that we havent got a win out of our first 2 games.

But after some very disappointing efforts last season that nearly had us call in quits, our first 2 matches have been really hard, tough matches and we are definitely playing a better brand of futsal. The wins will come if we keep up this style of play, and, as far as I am concerned, really enjoying it again!

Keep up the hard work team!!

After a great start to the season, we had a big lapse in concentration mid way through, and it cost us a chance to play finals.
But in what was our last game of the season, we stepped up and played well, working together to get the W 4-1. Hopefully next season we can be more consistent and continue to improve, Finishing this season equal 5th.

Week 3.1
After last weeks bye, we came up against a team we have beaten a few times. To be perfectly blunt, it was a horrible match, with Shane missing an absolute sitter and the basic skill level from both sides fairly subpar... Maybe it was the heat. They found the back of the net late in the second half, and that was the only score.
This loss leaves us in 5th place, but 5 points back with only 5 matches remaining will make it tough.
Thanks to Hannah for braving the heat and coming out to watch. Please don't judge us on that effort.

Week 3.8
After last weeks 11-1 disappointment against the top side, we would face the side just above us. A win would see us equal 4th (5th by percentage), and a loss could see us begin to lose touch with any chance of finals.
We started off strong, defending well with good counter attacks that we struggled to convert, until we first scored about 8 mins in off a through in from Freo off a header in front, which they tied up not long after. We would then continue to push and an absolute bullet from Kyle found the back of the net. Unfortunately they tied it up just before half time.

We came out again strong and after the first few minutes, we had all the run and play, but weren't able to capitalize. Against the run of play, the opposition put 2 quick goals on, having us down by 2 with only 5 minutes remaining. It was at this point that all the play and run we had started to pay off, with some great plays Besty and Kyle were able to score with some help from Stav up forward, and Shane and Andy in defense. Tied score, we seem to know how to wait till the last minutes, and again with 45seconds remaining, a team effort helped Besty put us in front. They came with one last shot, but Freo stood strong and came up with a big save when it was needed. Time ticked away to give us our 4th win from 8 outings, leaving us equal 4th but 5th on percentage.

Great effort by all the guys going into the bye week. With 6 games remaining, we play 4 teams below us which could mean good things if we don't have a lapse in concentration.

Week 3.6
After last weeks 9-6 loss, this week we came up against the bottom side. With a large chunk of our side galavanting off overseas, we had a couple of helpers this week. We started off fairly well with a great cross from besty to Shane to start the scoring, but not long after they returned and tied the game. It was a tough and fairly unflattering game skill wise for both teams. We went into the half tied at 1-1. At the start of the 2nd half, They were able to sneak another by Kyle in goals which put them up, and had us needing to refocus.
Enter Chris "Betsy" Best. The man went on a scoring streak you would need to see to be believed. He put on 4 successive goals in the space of a couple of minutes taking the opposition on with moves as sweet as candy. Finish the game off with a corner from Stav which resulted in an own goal from them and the game was beyond doubt.
It wasn't pretty for 60% of the match, but we got the job done, taking our season to 3W-3L, and having us just 1 point out of the top 4.
For some reason we play the top side again next week, so will be another challenge which hopefully we can step up to.

Week 3.4
With an undermanned squad, one of Freos mates came down to help us out. Playing the top side, it was always gunna be tough. With a ripper strike from Andy gave us the lead early, but as the half finished, they found the equalizer.
They scored with the first kick of the 2nd half, but then we had some good ball movement resulting in Shane finding the back of the net. Josh also added to the scoring, but they too scored. With the game tied with 8mins left, our lack of fresh legs and run showed and the flood gates opened. They put on another 5 before the end.

With lack of rotations, we really held our own for a long period of time. This is looking like a more even competition with some more competitive matches as we all continue to improve.

After another great win tonight, we have found our way back into the top 4. Still early in the season, but all great signs!

Week 3.1
First match of the new season. To kick it off we were down 5 players, which isn't ideal. Our full in from last season Stav has agreed to play a more permanent role this year bringing us atleast to 5 players for the first match. The team were facing has been unpredictable, with us winning 8-2 and them beating us by more than that again late last season...

From the very first touch of the game, Besty scored a ripper to get us off to a great start. From here we really knuckled down on defense holding them scoreless through 8 minutes. As always with this team, there was a little argy bargy resulting in Jason receiving a yellow card... From here they scored a couple of tough goals that snuck by Wolf, but we were no where near out of the match, with Stav scoring off a deflection from a corner, had us going into half time down 3-2.

From here, we kept strong and were rewarded with a free kick near goals. Shane made an absolute meal of the first touch, but a classy finish from Stav had it in the back of the net to tie the game. With about 10minutes remaining, a switch in goals had Jason as keeper and releasing wolf with some fresh legs. This worked in out favor, until an almost brilliant stop from Jason snuck through to put us down 4-3 with two minutes remaining. With tired legs and sweat bucketing off us, we stood strong and composed. Jason made a great save, and in transition Besty used his time and foot skills well and found the back of the net with 28secs remaining. With the scores tied, this could have been a good result for us, but a credit to the whole team, we won the ball back. As time counted down, shot on goal by Besty hit the post, the ball fell to stavs feet, but he too hit the post. With 2 seconds to go, Shane was in the right place at the right time with the ball landing right at his feet, and like Goldberg at the end of Might Ducks 3, he was able to find the back of the net, putting us in front as the game finished!!!

It was an absolutely brilliant win, one that we all felt really proud of and we all worked as a team to achieve! Hopefully some good signs for the new season. Well done team!!

In unfortunate events in last nights practice match, the ever enthusiastic Jackson had an on court injury which resulted with a fractured foot. In the light of the new day, Jackson has released the following statement....

"Due to the broken bone and the issues it's going to cause with work I'm announcing my retirement :(
I love playing indoor soccer but I can't risk missing work for being s**t at soccer :( this injury is gonna cost me time in work on extra shifts I had booked :(

Sorry guys. Loved playing with you all."

It's been an enjoyable 2 seasons having you on the team, and you managed to pull out a few miracle goals completely out of no where! The team at DU wish you a speedy recovery and all the best for your future endeavors.

Week 2.14
After a really tough 3-1 loss last week, we were ready to put in one last big effort for this season. The match was tense right from the start and we played some great defense. They snuck 1 through late in the half, and we weren't able to capitalize on our good chances, we went in to the half down 0-1.
The 2nd half was hard fought as well. They got another on the board early, but we hit back with good play set up by Wolf in goals creating a successful header for Besty. But again they put another on the board with the score line having us down 3-1 with 5 mins left. From here on we had all the play, and Jackson was able to put one home, keeping us in the game. We had plenty of chances with Shane firing one in to hit the cross bar, which seemed to be the story of our night. We just couldn't get the equalizer as our season came to an end.
We have most definitely improved late in the season, having all close games in the last 5 weeks. These are all great signs for the next season. We improved our ladder position as well so the wooden spoon didn't come our way. Looking forward to a couple of weeks rest then we begin our assault on the summer season.

Week 2.12
After our bye last week, everyone was itching to get back into things. We were facing the 2nd ranked team that beat us 8-0 last time we played. After about 6mins, the nil all dead lock was broken by Jackson's strike. Early on we were right in the game, but they seemed to have luck on their side with a few deflections just scraping past Freo in goals. We went into the half down 4-1, but we felt like we were a chance.

They scored twice early, and the game appeared to be slipping away from us. We dug deep late and goals from Stav and Besty and a ripper corner by Chris off the arse of their keeper, had us with in 3 as the game came to an end. We played really well and got some passing plays working, and really got some quality team work happening. We had our chances and we were just unlucky at times. The improvements are becoming evident and giving us things to work on. With 2 matches remaining, it's looking like a strong finish to the season.

Week 2.10
After last weeks embarrassing 14-0 disaster, we went out to redeem ourselves. A couple of players back in this week we were hoping for a better showing. Last time we played this team, we lost 8-1. We started really well with our defense moving well. We were able to stop their movement and turn them into some good looks on goal. Some unfortunate confusion up back cost us a goal, but a handy strike for Stav, who came down to help us out, had us in a tied game at the half.
Once again we played a huge defense game not letting them get clean shots. We had some great chances that just didn't find the back of the net. A lapse of concentration in the last few minutes cost us 2 late goals putting us down by 2. With 10 seconds left a perfect throw from Freo helped Stav execute a perfect header as the time ran out.
We really played a great game and felt like we deserved a better result. Great to see some improvement in a quality match.

Week 2.9
Faced the top side this week, and we were down a few players. We tried hard and ran out the game, but we couldn't find the back of the net, while the other team were able to score 8. We defended well but couldn't stop some of their fire power:

Week 2.7
Another week, another very disappointing draw. Playing the bottom side, we knew it would be close, but playing the way we did was never going to result in a W. It was a very defensive game by both sides, but in the first half, they were able to get away from us to easily, and one of those runs resulted in an early goal, which left us a little stunned. We tried to calm ourselves, but couldn't get any clear runs or shots, and we went into the break down.
Unfortunately the 2nd half didn't go our way, apart from an own goal which leveled the scores. We thought our luck may have turned, but frustration crept into our game, and really didn't help. We were good enough to not allow any into the back of our net, but unfortunately we had a handful of good attempts that didn't quite work.
It's going to be a tough run in the second half of the season, and if we play like this, could be a rough few weeks. Let's hope we get back to playing some competitive football.

Week 2.6
We were facing a new side in the competition this week so unsure what to expect. Turns out they were new to the rules but not completely horrible. We were down a few players in Connolly and Kyle, and Freo still overseas, Jackson's mate Ross came down to give us a hand. Unfortunately we had a stinker, and let many chances pass us by. Both teams scored in the first half, with Besty using some fancy footwork and scoring, but we felt we could have been ahead.
The second half went the same way, with them scoring in the first 30seconds. We just couldn't get a flow and really struggled. A hand ball decision in front of goal gave Andy a penalty, and an opportunity to score his first goal. You could cut the tension with a knife as he lined up the shot....
GOOOOOOOAAAAAALLLLLL!!!!!!!
Andy's first goal for the team to complete everyone scoring at least 1! Nice work!
As this happened, the match was tied with minutes remaining, and that's where it would finish. It was a disappointing draw, and we feel the W got away from us. Hopefully next week will bring different results!

Getting some tips....

23/07/2015

Week 2.5
This week we went in thinking we were a slight chance of going close for a win. Kyle put his hand up for keeper, and Jackson returned from his trip to Europe. We went down early, but we we felt this was a game we could go the distance with, and we proved that with Marcus scoring our first. Not long after that, Jackson scored a strong strike putting us up, but unfortunately they went up and scored straight away. We went into the half tied and was anyone's game.
They scored 2 early, but without a super human keeping display from Kyle, could easily have been 4 or 5. Jason scored a ripping free kick from half way, which was well left by Besty. They scored again, and with 5 minutes to go, the pressure was on. We held our defense strong, while pushing to score but it never came.
It was a very hard played match by both sides and well refereed, which lead to an enjoyable game, even with the result. Man of the match performance by Kyle kept us in it. Over all, it was a good match. On to next week.

Week 2.4
After a win to start the season, it's been a rough couple of weeks, with 8-0 and 8-1 losses. Been tough with minimal rotations, at most having 1 on the bench, and this week was no different. We came up against a side that came down from div 2. They scored early, but we hit back straight away, they scored again, and so did we. We kept up our defense, but a few mistakes on our behalf cost us, and we went into the half down 5-2, with Besty scoring the 2.
A few calls seemed to go against us, even when both teams were in agreement, the ref had different ideas, with Chris receiving a yellow card, and Besty getting his second yellow resulting in a red. A positive was a ripper penalty goal taken by Jason. The other team managed to put another 3 on the board. We stuck it out till the end with Shane scoring a goal off a corner kick deflection with about 1 second remaining!
Not the worst game we played, but frustration got the best of us at times. We are improving our passing and getting a bit more confident when in possession, but still "panicking" with the ball and moving it too quickly. Surely another win is just around he corner.

Season 2
Week 1
First week back after the off season, and we start a few players down. With Jackson and Freo overseas, Connolly busy and Marcus working, we were left with 5. Stan has come down to give us a hand for the season and slotted in nicely. The other team also struggled for numbers, only having 4 players, but had also come down from the higher division.

We started off very strong scoring on the first play, and we rolled on from there. We scored 5 times in the first half, and Kyle as keeper kept a clean sheet for the half. We played strong defense and used the extra time to work on our skills and plays.

The second half basically went the same way with us scoring another 2. They got a screamer passed Andy as keeper and an own goal. The game finished with Besty scoring 6 goals and Jason with 1. Was great to start the season of with a win and getting 3 points early! Hopefully a sign of things to come. Great win D.U!

End of season trip...

04/06/2015

Week 14
This was the final match of our first season and we were facing the toughest team in the league. We had decided we would play our hardest and try and get as many shots on goal. Our position on the ladder was settled so we really didn't have much to lose. For the first 12mins or so no team scored and we were playing a really good defensive game. They were able to sneak one into goals, but we struck back straight away through a belter mid court strike from Besty. They snuck another just before half time, but we went to the break feeling positive and still in the match!

We continued the hard defense and the other team started getting very frustrated, and started getting physical. We were still in the game with only minutes to go, but they found their way through to score 2 late goals. They resulted to some cheap dives late which was annoying.
This felt like the best we had played all season, which leaves us positive for the next, which starts in a couple of weeks. Massive thank you to all our fans that came out this week (Jesse, Abbey, Nicki, Steve, Steph) who made us a team banner and cupcakes, and a thanks to Kylie and Kate for coming out too! Also thank you to everyone who came out during this season for the support and for all the cake that was provided.

Was a great season where we have improved and had a good time. Hopefully next season we continue to improve and maybe record a few more wins! Cheers to all the boys for making the commitment to the team and making sure you are paid up and at the games.

Week 13
The week we thought we might be able to push a close outcome due to the fact we only went down by a goal last time we met. But unfortunate that was not the case. They had a very good running game that we struggled with defensively, and it hurt us on the score board. They score 4 in the first, but we got one back through a bullet if a free kick taken by Kyle.

We improved in the second, but not in the scoring department. We couldn't find the back of the net to keep up with them. There was a delay in game when Kyle took a heavy strike to the pill bag (" OOOH Me Plums was the cry").

We showed some good skills and plays, but struggled finishing in front of goal. 1 match left in this season. Hopefully finish of strong before a break, then onto next season! Cheers to Kate and Kel for the support.

Week 12
Disappointed this week.... The (former)bottom side had been on a massive mid season recruiting effort and wasn't quite the team we defeated earlier in the season. We lacked presence across the halfback line (?) with Kyle out with the squirts. Tough night for Freo in goals and some hard strikers on the other team made it for a rough night.

We did have a couple of nice goals of our own, capped of with a stunning header by Jason "new shoes" Mckenzie.
Thanks to Kate and Sam (who made awesome passion fruit yoyos) and Freos nan who came along for support.

Over all, a disappointing night which leaves us on the bottom of the ladder, behind 7th place by a point. With 2 weeks left, gunna be tough to move up from here.
