Glory Be To Jesus 16/03/2024

As we come to the fifth Sunday of Lent, our eyes are drawn to the cross

We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you, for by your holy cross you have redeemed the world

Glory Be To Jesus This hymn was translated by Edward Caswall (1814-1878) from a 18th century Italian hymn by S Alfonso, "Viva! viva! Gesù".

ST BOTOLPH-FOR MARY, MOTHER OF OUR LORD 08/03/2024

Sunday is Lent 4, Mothering Sunday and Refreshment Sunday. Whatever we call it, this week we’re thinking about the role of Mary,
Mother of Jesus, as we give thanks for mothers and all who care for us and others

We praise you, our God, for all mothers who have wept in sorrow and joy for their children. Blessed be God for ever.
We praise you, our God, for Jesus, born of a woman and nurtured in her love, and for Mary, a reminder of your patient, waiting love.
Blessed be God for ever.

Hark, the Glad Sound! The Saviour Comes (Tune: Bristol - 4vv) [with lyrics for congregations] 09/12/2023

In Advent we’re looking at what Advent hymns teach us about Christ and his coming
Tomorrow we’ll be pondering this hymn:

Hark, the Glad Sound! The Saviour Comes (Tune: Bristol - 4vv) [with lyrics for congregations] "Hark, the Glad Sound The Saviour Comes" was written by prolific English hymn writer Philip Doddridge in 1735.The tune is 'Bristol', also known as 'Ravenscro...

We will remember them.
On Sunday we will begin our service at 1055 with the Act of Remembrance and even as we remember, pray for peace in troubled times.

O God, who would fold both heaven and earth in a single peace:
let the design of thy great love
lighten upon the waste of our wraths and sorrows:
and give peace to thy Church,
peace among nations,
peace in our dwellings,
and peace in our hearts:
through thy Son our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.

It is 90 years ago today that the foundation stone of our church was laid. We will celebrate the church’s dedication at 11 tomorrow.

Almighty God,
to whose glory we celebrate the dedication of this house of prayer:
we praise you for the many blessings
you have given to those who worship you here:
and we pray that all who seek you in this place may find you,
and, being filled with the Holy Spirit,
may become a living temple acceptable to you;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord,
who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen.

A prayer from the Friends of the Holy Land:

Lord Jesus,
who walked the land you made holy
and blessed those who made peace;
look with compassion
on the people of your land today,
Jew and Muslim and Christian,
Israeli and Palestinian.
May peace come for all with justice,
may war cease and all live in harmony,
and be the children of the one God
who you made known,
now and always.
Amen.
