Face moulds, also known as "life casts," are crucial in film special effects makeup. Here's why:

In this video, we're taking you behind the scenes to witness the process we went through to make a face mould.

It's a crucial step in crafting the mind-blowing special effects makeup for our upcoming sci-fi film, 'Other Ends.'

Warning to anyone who easily gets claustrophobic.

The person being moulded can't move their face or make any expressions AND they can only breathe through their nose during a process that can take 2-3 hours.

Vicki, our production designer and special effects makeup artist, takes her job seriously, ensuring the person being moulded feels safe and comfortable throughout the process. They've got to be super careful and keep up a constant conversation to reassure the brave soul underneath all that goo.

BTS Day 8 - On Location at Gnangara Pines filming Heretics

This was our last full shoot day.

A lot of the scenes went way over time and we were losing light fast.
To the point where we had an entire scene at the end of the day in about 20 minutes. We took the camera off the tripod and shot the whole thing handheld. We filmed somewhere between 10-15 shots in the time. We hustled hard and got it all done.

The handheld look actually complimented the particular scene we were filming.

Bts Day 7 - On location in Gnangara Pines filming Heretics.

This was our final 'night' scene. We filmed a fight scene first and aimed to finish off with a scene where our protagonist is submerged in mud.
Reminder that the temperature was nearly 5 degrees at this point, so everyone huddled around with towels and other ways to heat her up so that as SOON as the take was done, we could get her up and get her warm.

We also used multiple cameras at the same time to reduce the number of times she had to do it.

In just a few more days Heretics will have soared over 3000 views on YouTube.

BTS Day 5 - On location in Myalup Pine Forest filming Heretics.
In just under 2 weeks, Heretics has already received almost 1500 views.

This was our last shoot day for 2020. Our main goal for 2020 was to finish all the scenes that required Kilian Roberts, the boy who plays Sylwester, as we realised there is a good chance that he might have a growth spurt before we start filming again around mid-2021.

This was mainly the last shoot day in 2020 because that is when things start to dry out and we could only really film when the grass was still green in order to pass off Australia as Central Europe. xD

BTS Day 3 - On Location in Gnangara Pines.

This was our first night shoot. We filmed in Gnangara so there would be less travel distance to transport equipment etc.

As we were out in the woods, everything we used needed to be battery powered or solar powered.

The spot we chose to film was a decent walk into the pines and so we created a makeshift path using $2 solar lights from Bunnings.
Don't cheap out as this did not work. At the end of the shoot, we relied on everyones torches to pack down and carry everything back to Unit. And by this time, all the lights at Unit were also dying out. Dx

So if you shoot at night with no mains power, make sure you bring more than enough lights!

Behind the Scenes - Day 2 on Location in Myalup Filming Heretics

During our second day on location we focused on filming most of the final scene in the film.
The rain was in and out to the point where we had given up and were ready to quit and go home. But as we walked back to our cars, the rain suddenly stopped and the rain clouds almost completely disappeared (within minutes).

The rain stayed away long enough for us to finish our shoot day and it even gave us some beautiful golden light to add an extra bit of magic to the emotional climax.
