It was a sincere privilege to pay tribute to Bonnie Nelson for her dedication of service to the nursing profession. Bonnie obtained her Master of Science degree in Nursing Education and worked 42 years at Cabell Huntington Hospital. She specialized in Pediatrics and the Education Department.
Rest in peace our Nurse Sister. May your legacy continue to shine bright.

Yesterday we had the privilege of honoring Ada France RN for her 41 years of dedication to the nursing profession. Ada graduated from the Holzer School of Nursing in 1951 and worked her entire nursing career at Holzer Medical Center. She worked in several different specialty areas, the last 20 years being in Utilization Review. Ada retired in 1992. She was well loved by many nurses and holzer employees. Rest in peace nurse sister.

Happy Nurses Week to every nurse…active, inactive or retired❣️ Thankful for our group who wanted to recognize nurses that often get forgotten ( nursing instructors, health department nurses, school nurses, etc). Special cookies and cards were delivered to many of them in Gallia county today. NHG member Candace Moore remembered several nurses that are in her facility( permission granted to share pictures). They were overjoyed to be remembered ❣️Once a nurse…. Always a nurse dear ladies! One of the ladies even told Candace she wanted our services to honor her when she passed. 👆🏻✝️🙌🏻❤️

Today we paid tribute to Phyllis “Arlene” Pullen RN. Arleen obtained her Nursing Degree from St. Mary’s School of Nursing and her Anesthesia degree from the University of Cincinnati. Arlene served as Chief Anesthetist at Thomas Memorial for over 30 years. She dedicated over 60 years to the Nursing Profession. Thank you Arlene for a job well done. May your legacy continue to shine bright.

Today, Judy Sortet RN was honored for her 53 years of dedication to the nursing profession. Judy pursued her nursing education until obtaining her Doctorate. She began her nursing career as a labor and delivery nurse after which she became an instructor at St. Mary’s School of Nursing followed by her tenure as Professor and Associate Dean of the School of Nursing at Marshall University. Rest in Peace our Nurse Sister. May your legacy continue to shine bright.

Clarice Valentine RN worked at Gallipolis State Institute and in Recovery at Holzer Hospital in Gallipolis, OH. She dedicated over 39 years to the nursing profession. Rest in Peace our Nurse sister. May your legacy continue to shine for all to see.

Carol Blackburn LPN was honored for her dedication to the nursing profession. She worked long term care at Heartland in Jackson, OH. Thank you for a job well done. Rest in Peace our nurse sister.

Toni Karle RN, MSN, CNP was honored for her dedication of 46+ years to the Nursing Profession.
Toni worked in various capacities including, but not limited to, critical care at St. Mary’s, VAMC in Huntington and Los Angeles, as an Assistant Professor at Marshall University, and as a Certified Nurse Practitioner. May her legacy continue to shine bright.

This is so exciting how many Nurse Honor Guards are developing over the nation! This May will be the first National NHG Coalition Conference. This will help us grow and hopefully become more efficient and give us new ideas to continue to honor our fallen nurse colleagues. Dorothy Hanson LPN dedicated 25 years to the nursing profession. She started her career as an OR technician before obtaining her License as a Practical Nurse. She worked her entire career at Holzer Clinic before she retired. Thank you for your service Dorothy. Your colleagues will take it from here.

Timothy Newberry LPN was honored today for his years of service as a nurse. He worked at Lakin Correctional Center in WV. He was highly respected and loved by his peers. Thank you Tim for your service. Your colleagues will take it from here. May your memory and nursing legacy shine for many years to come.

Eric Christian RN dedicated many years to the Nursing Profession. He was employed by Cabell Huntington Hospital in the Emergency Room Department. He touched many lives….may his legacy continue to shine bright.

Thankful for the opportunity to again, remember our fallen nurse colleagues during the holiday season. The official lighting of the city park is next Wednesday evening!

Betty Hogue RN dedicated 47 years of her life to the nursing profession. Her love was maternity. She was charge nurse for labor and delivery and retired from Adena Hospital in Chillicothe, OH.

This afternoon, we had the privilege to honor one of our very own Holzer retirees, Maxine Little RN.
Maxine graduated from the Holzer School of Nursing in 1948. She worked at Holzer Hospital starting in surgery then transferring to Pediatrics from which she retired in 1996. Maxine was well known and loved throughout the Hospital and was considered the epitome of a professional nurse; from her love for caring for sick children, mentoring new nurses, to proudly dressing the part daily, from her starched whites, her shiny shoes to the Nurses cap that covered her halo. Thank you for your service Maxine. Your colleagues will take it from here. ❤️🕯️🌹

Today we had the privilege to pay honor to Corinne “Cokey” Muth RN who retired from Cabell Huntington Hospital as a surgical nurse. Cokey dedicated 40+ years to the nursing profession.

It was a very hot Independence Day but it was great to participate in the parade. The loud cheers from the spectators made us feel special ❣️❤️🕯️🌹

Louise Saunders LPN started her nursing career in Kentucky before moving to Ohio. She worked at the very first Holzer Hospital on First Avenue in Gallipolis before transferring to the current Holzer facility where Louise worked intensive care the entire time before retiring from Holzer in 1996. Thank you for your 30 years of dedication to the nursing profession.🌹

Donna Jean Davis started her nursing career as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She graduated from Huntington East Vocational School in 1965. She later received her Degree as a Registered Nurse through Marshall University, graduating from the class of 1982. Donna worked at the VA Medical Center in Huntington, WV. Thank you for your dedication to the Nursing Profession.

Jane Fields RN dedicated 39 years to the Nursing Profession.
Jane attended the Charleston General Hospital School of Nursing in Charleston, WV. She worked in the Emergency Room and Health Department associated with Cabell Huntington Hospital and later at the State Hospital in addiction recovery. It was an honor to pay tribute to a fallen colleague . Thank you for a job well done Jane.

In Honor of Nurse’s week 2023, a tree was planted and dedicated in the Gallipolis City park in memory of all fallen nurses. May the families of the fallen know that their loved one is still remembered beyond their memorial service. Gone but never forgotten. 🌹🕯❤️
