South Korea plans to spend billions of dollars on building safe zone for refugees on Thai-Myanmar border
South Korea government is reportedly planning to build a Safe Zone on Thai-Burma border for refugees who are fleeing from conflict zone.
In telephone conversation between South Korea Foreign Minister Chung Eui-yong and Thai Deputy Prime Minister Don Pramudwinai made on April 30, they reportedly discussed this issue, South Korea media reported.

KNLA Urges BGF Not to Support Burma Army

Leader of Karen National Union’s military wing has urged all Karen armed groups including Border Guard Force (BGF) Karen State to carefully consider Burmese military’s order to fight alongside against Karen fellows in Karen State.
Gen Baw Kyaw Heh, vice chief-of-staff of KNU’s military wing Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) has urged the Karen armed organizations on Sunday in a statement he released. He released the statement amid reports saying that Burmese military ordered the BGF to fight alongside the military against the KNU troops in Papun District, Karen State.
“We knew that they [Burmese military] asked BGF to support them [to fight alongside against the KNLA]. The enemy’s plot does nothing good to our Karen people. It is the game of Karen people fighting against each other. Only our Karen people who will be the ones who fight, die, suffer and get hurt from the battle So, I want to urge all of you to stand firmly for justices and clearly decide what is good and bad,” Gen Baw Kyaw Heh said in the statement.
His message goes to all Karen armed groups such as Democratic Karen Benevolent Army (DKBA), KNU/KNLA-Peace Council and the BGF. The BGF Karen State is under the Burmese military command while DKBA and KNU/KNLA PC are signatories of Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA).
Gen Baw Kyaw Heh said that increasing air strikes in Karen State means that the military become weaker in ground battle because the military couldn’t send their troops to frontline bases to support their fellows.
“They launched air strikes just to show their power to encourage their fellows in frontline and to threaten civilians. Air strikes are not that effective,” said Gen Baw Kyaw Heh.
“Our fellows gave their lives for liberation of Karen people. Let’s get united and fight together to end dictatorship,” he added.
Gen Baw Kyaw Heh said that it is a good timing for all Karen armed groups to stand up and fight until the military dictatorship collapse.
“We haven’t got such a great opportunity like this within 70 years. Let’s seize the opportunity and fight bravely to end the dictatorship in our generation. So that the next generation will be liberated and freed [from dictatorship],” said Gen Baw Kyaw Heh.
More than 20,000 villagers in Karen State have been displaced in jungle due to the ongoing fighting between the Burmese military and the KNLA troops since early this year.
Mutraw District: Heavy rains have flooded and wipped away many of they Karen IDPs' temporary tents, food and cooking supllies. This has cuased more burdens for people on top of fleeing for lives from the attack by SAC/Tatmadaw.

Local residents said that they witnessed the BGF soldiers were carried this week by trucks from on the road connecting Ka Ma Maung and Papun town.
Local sources claimed that about 150 BGF soldiers were sent to frontline in Karen National Union, KNU's Brigade 5 area to support the Burma army troops amid escalating fighting in Karen State border with Thailand.
